Kumar, Ajith; Sharma, Subhash – Structural Equation Modeling, 1999
Demonstrates the advantages of Rao's Distance (C. Rao, 1949) over the root mean residual square for model comparisons using an analysis of a sample of multitrait-multimethod data. A simulation study shows that the true orderings of intermodel proximities are received with a fair degree of accuracy. (Author/SLD)

Zimmerman, Donald W. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1998
Uses computer simulation to study the effects on parametric and nonparametric statistical tests when assumptions of normality and homogeneity of variance are violated. Results reveal that nonparametric methods are not always acceptable substitutes for parametric methods in research studies when parametric assumptions are not satisfied. (SLD)

Waller, Niels G.; Underhill, J. Michael; Kaiser, Heather A. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1999
Presents a simple method for generating simulated plasmodes and artificial test clusters with user-defined shape, size, and orientation. For "J" clusters, indicator validity is defined as the squared correlation ratio between the cluster indicator and J-1 dummy variables. Illustrates the method through simulation. (SLD)

Meara, Paul – International Journal of Bilingualism, 1999
Describes how Random Boolean Networks can be used to simulate simple lexicons, and shows how some puzzling properties of real lexicons seem to emerge spontaneously in these models. Describes simple simulations of bilingual aphasia, and shows that a range of recovery patterns can be observed in these simulations. (Author/VWL)

Bentler, Peter M.; Yuan, Ke-Hai – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2000
Proposes generalized least squares methods in structural equation models to estimate potential mean structure parameters and to evaluate whether the given model can be augmented successfully with a mean structure. A simulation shows that a method that takes variability due to the estimate of covariance structure parameters into account performs…

Hartsuiker, Robert J.; Kolk, Herman H. J. – Cognitive Psychology, 2001
Tested whether an elaborated version of the perceptual loop theory (W. Levelt, 1983) and the main interruption rule was consistent with existing time course data (E. Blackmer and E. Mitton, 1991; C. Oomen and A. Postma, in press). The study suggests that including an inner loop through the speech comprehension system generates predictions that fit…

Hakstian, A. Ralph; Barchard, Kimberly A. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2000
Developed a sample-based nonanalytical degrees-of-freedom correction factor for situations sampling both subjects and conditions with measurement data departing from essentially parallel form. Assessed the application of this correction factor through a simulation study involving data sets with a range of design characteristics and manifesting…

Kaskowitz, Gary S.; De Ayala, R. J. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2001
Studied the effect of item parameter estimation for computation of linking coefficients for the test response function (TRF) linking/equating method. Simulation results showed that linking was more accurate when there was less error in the parameter estimates, and that 15 or 25 common items provided better results than 5 common items under both…

Klabbers, Jan H. G. – Simulation & Gaming, 1996
Structural aspects that relate the trivial machine, nontrivial machine, and the actor system are discussed. The term rationalism is discussed in terms of discourses that include or exclude those who participate in the debate. Subsequently, the author elaborates on the notion of reality and the meaning of the real world in relation to gaming,…

Groessler, Andreas; Maier, Frank H.; Milling, Peter M. – Simulation & Gaming, 2000
Discussion of computer-based simulations for business focuses on adding transparency through system dynamics techniques. Describes an experiment that evaluated the relevance and the effects of providing structural transparency to users of business simulators and suggests further research. (Contains 51 references.) Olejnik, Stephen; Mills, Jamie; Keselman, Harvey – Journal of Experimental Education, 2000
Evaluated the use of Mallow's C(p) and Wherry's adjusted R squared (R. Wherry, 1931) statistics to select a final model from a pool of model solutions using computer generated data. Neither statistic identified the underlying regression model any better than, and usually less well than, the stepwise selection method, which itself was poor for…

Gross, Alan L. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2000
Presents a Bayesian method for obtaining an interval estimate of the population squared multiple correlation from an incomplete multivariate normal data set. Estimates were constructed using Gibbs sampling. Simulation studies indicate that the method can yield accurate interval estimates of the population squared multiple correlation. (SLD)

Meara, Kevin; Robin, Frederic; Sireci, Stephen G. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2000
Investigated the usefulness of multidimensional scaling (MDS) for assessing the dimensionality of dichotomous test data. Focused on two MDS proximity measures, one based on the PC statistic (T. Chen and M. Davidson, 1996) and other, on interitem Euclidean distances. Simulation results show that both MDS procedures correctly identify…

Suich, Ron – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2001
Presents and evaluates three estimators for "p," the proportion of success in predicting variable "Y," with nominal measurement, using predictor variables that also have nominal measurement. Showed through simulation that one estimator is always biased upward, and then proposed another possible estimator that involves using…

Wall, Melanie M.; Amemiya, Yasuo – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 2001
Considers the estimation of polynomial structural models and shows a limitation of an existing method. Introduces a new procedure, the generalized appended product indicator procedure, for nonlinear structural equation analysis. Addresses statistical issues associated with the procedure through simulation. (SLD)
