Social Support and Conformity: The Effect of Differentiation from the Group and Order of Responding.
Allen, Vernon L.; Levine, John M. – 1969
In this experiment two variables relevant to explaining the social support phenomenon were investigated. Response position of the partner (first vs fourth) and contact between partner and S prior to the group situation (contact vs. no contact) were manipulated. Male and female Ss responded to visual, information, and opinion items in a group…

White, Robert N.; Bell, Michael L. – Southern Journal of Educational Research, 1978
The study sought to determine if students (40 seventh-graders) who were given specific instruction in art vocabulary would receive significantly greater art project evaluations as compared to students receiving no such instruction. Results revealed significantly greater scores among students who had received instruction in art vocabulary. (JC)
Descriptors: Art Education, Comparative Analysis, Control Groups, Experimental Groups
Bloom, Howard S. – MDRC, 2006
This chapter examines the core analytic elements of randomized experiments for social research. Its goal is to provide a compact discussion for faculty members, graduate students, and applied researchers of the design and analysis of randomized experiments for measuring the impacts of social or educational interventions. Design issues considered…

Peer reviewedMyers, Edward Joseph – Journal of Education, 1971
The counseling of parents of underachievers appears to be a logical and productive way to proceed with underachieving elementary school pupils. The success of the method is, however, related to the quality of participation by the parents." (Author)

Gouran, Dennis S.; Baird, John E., Jr. – Speech Monographs, 1972
Article deals with a study that relates structure in terms of the relative frequency of occurrence of given classifications of discussion statements, and to examine the degree of structure which emerges in both problem-solving and informal group discussions. (Author/ML)
Descriptors: Communication Skills, Comparative Analysis, Experimental Groups, Group Discussion
Peer reviewedWilmot, William W. – Quarterly Journal of Speech, 1971
Treats the concept of ego-involvement as an independent variable in speech communication research from a theoretical point of view by illustrating how involvement has been variously conceptualized in research projects. Possible ways to solve the difficulties encountered in past conceptualization of involvement are suggested. (Author/DR)

Descriptors: Behavioral Objectives, College Students, Experimental Groups, Reinforcement
Stimpson, David Vern – J Soc Psychol, 1970
The results of this study suggest that people with a great deal of self-esteem and commitment to specific goals are not amenable to accepting the suggestions of others that relate to a change in their behavior. (CK)

Cudrin, Jay M. – J Consult Clin Psychol, 1969
Paper presented at the meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association (Philadelphia, April 1969).

Peer reviewedShine, Lester C., II – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
For multi-subject experiments with all factors repeated (a single independent group of subjects), three multi-subject behavior functions are identified and analyzed. They are based on Shine's actualized and pure single-subject behavior functions extended to multi-subject experiments with some factors nonrepeated (several independent groups of…

Peer reviewedStoker, Howard W.; And Others – Evaluation Review, 1981
The use of analysis of variance was examined under the assumption that the treatment had been randomly assigned to students, when in fact, the class had been the unit. Data support the idea that if one can randomly assign treatments to intact classes, consideration should certainly be given to doing so. (Author/GK)

Peer reviewedRosenthal, Nina Ribak – Education, 1980
An 18-week course on death and dying designed specifically for high school students significantly reduced participants' level of death anxiety. These results conflict with previous research on adolescents in which either increased anxiety or no significant differences in death anxiety were reported as a result of death education. (CM)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Anxiety, Comparative Analysis, Control Groups
Peer reviewedWeiner, Marcella Bakur; Weinstock, Comilda S. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1979
Geriatric outpatients were involved in a group resocialization program. Comparison is made between experimental groups whose leader used group intervention techniques, and groups where leader played a nonintervention role. Experimental group members showed changes toward more active problem-solving approaches, while group members remained fixed at…
Descriptors: Experimental Groups, Geriatrics, Group Dynamics, Helping Relationship
Peer reviewedWest, Leo H. T. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1977
Comments on a journal article that suggests that educational statistics may be compared even in cases where different experimental units are used in the analyses. (MLH)

Peer reviewedHammill, Donald D.; And Others – Learning Disability Quarterly, 1989
Research articles published in 10 major journals during the years 1984-1987 were evaluated to determine how many satisfied the recommendations of the Council for Learning Disabilities' Research Committee on reporting subject data. Only 4 of the 277 articles included acceptable information in 7 recommended areas of subject data. (Author/JDD)
