Peer reviewedWhitney, Douglas R.; Sabers, Darrell L. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1971
Descriptors: Discriminant Analysis, Essay Tests, Item Analysis, Statistical Analysis
Peer reviewedHall, Charles E. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1971
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Correlation, Discriminant Analysis, Statistical Studies
Prusok, Ralph E. – J Exp Educ, 1970
Descriptors: College Students, Discriminant Analysis, Measurement Instruments, Peer Relationship
Peer reviewedTate, Richard L. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1983
The use of generalized discriminant analysis as a descriptive technique which can be employed outside of the traditional analysis of variance studies is discussed. Examples based on real data are provided. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Discriminant Analysis, Multivariate Analysis, Statistical Studies
Peer reviewedGondek, Paul C. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
This paper discusses considerations in the unwary use of packaged discriminant analysis procedures including: the differences between the "group classification function" and the textbook classification function in both form and use, classification table confusions and their alleviation, and the hazards of stepping procedures. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Computer Programs, Data Processing, Discriminant Analysis, Multivariate Analysis
Peer reviewedOshima, Takako C.; Miller, M. David – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1990
A bidimensional 2-parameter logistic model was applied to data generated for 2 groups on a 40-item test. Item parameters were the same across groups; correlation across the 2 traits varied. Results indicate the need for caution in using item-response theory (IRT)-based invariance indexes with multidimensional data for these groups. (TJH)
Descriptors: Computer Simulation, Correlation, Discriminant Analysis, Item Response Theory
Peer reviewedMeshbane, Alice; Morris, John D. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1995
A method for comparing the cross-validated classification accuracies of linear and quadratic classification rules is presented under varying data conditions for the "k"-group classification problem. Separate-group and total-group proportions of correct classifications can be compared for the two rules, as is illustrated. (Author/SLD)

Borges, Nicole J.; Gibson, Denise D. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2005
This study investigated differences in personality patterns between person-oriented and technique-oriented physicians. It tested an integrative framework by converting the scores on the Personality Research Form (PRF) to the Big-Five factors and built a predictive model of group membership in clinical specialty area. PRF scores from 238 physicians…

Reis, Janet – Journal of Drug Education, 2007
Reasons for and immediate consequences of an alcohol overdose were explored for 217 undergraduate students requiring a medical emergency transport because of excessive alcohol consumption. The sample was categorized into 26 students attributing their overdose solely to bad luck and 191 students citing bad decision making as an explanation. A…

Yildirim, Osman – Journal of European Industrial Training, 2007
Purpose: This study aims at investigating emotional intelligence based on competencies for sales and IT people. Design/methodology/approach: A study was conducted on 111 employees of 12 firms from four different sectors in which firms benefited extensively from IT and sales activities. Findings: Emotional Competency Inventory (ECI, 2.0) was used…

Preston, Jonathan L.; Edwards, Mary Louise – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 2007
Purpose: Research has shown that young children with speech sound disorders may have weaknesses in phonological processing. However, such skills have not been thoroughly examined in adolescents with residual speech sound errors. Therefore, this study compared the phonological processing abilities of adolescents with residual speech sound errors to…

Mueller, Julie; Wood, Eileen; Willoughby, Teena; Ross, Craig; Specht, Jacqueline – Computers & Education, 2008
Given the prevalence of computers in education today, it is critical to understand teachers' perspectives regarding computer integration in their classrooms. The current study surveyed a random sample of a heterogeneous group of 185 elementary and 204 secondary teachers in order to provide a comprehensive summary of teacher characteristics and…
Descriptors: Teacher Characteristics, Computer Uses in Education, Discriminant Analysis, Technology Integration
Rots, Isabel; Aelterman, Antonia – European Educational Research Journal, 2008
Although several studies have confirmed the importance of teaching commitment for beginning teachers' retention in the profession, research on the factors that enhance the teaching commitment of teacher education graduates is scarce. The purpose of the current study is thus to identify the predicting factors that distinguish teacher education…

James, John T.; Tichy, Karen L.; Collins, Alan; Schwob, John – Catholic Education: A Journal of Inquiry and Practice, 2008
This article examines a wide range of parish school indicators that can be used to predict long-term viability. The study reported in this article explored the relationship between demographic variables, financial variables, and parish grade school closures in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis. Specifically, this study investigated whether…

Strang, Kenneth David – Practical Assessment, Research & Evaluation, 2009
This paper discusses how a seldom-used statistical procedure, recursive regression (RR), can numerically and graphically illustrate data-driven nonlinear relationships and interaction of variables. This routine falls into the family of exploratory techniques, yet a few interesting features make it a valuable compliment to factor analysis and…
