Community School 53 has seen a significant increase in suspension rates over the past five years. The suspension rate in 2018-2019 was 5.04%; during the 2019-2020 school year the rate was 8.11%. There is no data from the school year 2020-2021 due to COVID-19. The suspension rate rose drastically in 2021-2022 to 18.10%, and it was at 17.62% for the 2022-2023 school year. This research focused on teacher perceptions at Community School 53 regarding suspensions and effective use of Multi-Tiered System of Supports -- Behavior (MTSS-B) used by the district. The goal was to analyze their insights to identify why there are high suspensions, effectiveness of MTSS-B, and create action plans to remedy some of these issues for the 2024-2025 school year. An action research design was used to study perception of teachers at Community School 53. Mixed methods, both quantitative and qualitative data, were used to complete this research. Three pieces of data were used to gather information on the perceptions of teachers. The first data analyzed were the 2022-2023 Ed School Climate Survey (EDSCLS) results of the teachers at Community School 53. The second data used were from a survey given to all 55 teachers at the school with both multiple choice and open-ended questions. The third group of data collected was an interview conducted with six of these teachers. Once the data were analyzed and trends identified, the researcher created an action team of faculty and staff at the school. This group met multiple times where the data was shared with them, and action plans were created based on the data to make improvements for the following school year.
