Examined how older lawyers function in a high stress occupation using data from a random stratified sample of (N=130) lawyers. Results indicated that elderly lawyers are able to reduce work stress by control over the quantity of work, focus, and client selection. (Author/RC)

Variability in choice of coping mechanism, type of loss, and physical and emotional reactions was shown. When instructors are unable to finish their teaching contracts, new instructors can benefit from knowing the feelings and concerns of the students. This reports students reactions to the situation, and recommends such things as making clear requirements and grading policy, and clearly describing preferred teaching style.

Counselors with nonadequate, self-help networks experienced more on-the-job stress, perceived the university as being less supportive, and identified more conflict of role definition.
