College Student Affairs Journal, v43 n2 p1-14 2025
Since its founding in 1949, the Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA) has served as a vital professional association for student affairs practitioners across the southeastern United States. This article provides a historical overview of SACSA's evolution, highlighting its foundational values of inclusiveness, professionalism, and collegiality. Through an examination of landmark events--including early commitments to racial and gender equity, responses to national crises, and organizational restructuring--the article illustrates how SACSA has adapted to changing contexts while maintaining its core mission. Utilizing the Institutional Intelligence Model, the article explores future challenges and opportunities for SACSA, encouraging reflection on how professional associations can remain relevant and inclusive in an evolving higher education landscape.
