Hoyle, Rick H.; Smith, Gregory T. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1994
Defines structural equation modeling as comprehensive, flexible approach to research design and data analysis. Provides conceptual overview of clinical research hypotheses that invite evaluation as structural equation models. Particular attention is devoted to hypotheses that are not adequately evaluated using traditional statistical models.…

Aiken, Leona S.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1994
Used structural equation modeling for comparative treatment outcome research conducted with heterogeneous clinical subpopulations within large multimodality treatment settings. Evaluated effect of early period of treatment on daily lives of 486 clients in 2 drug abuse treatment modalities (methadone maintenance and outpatient counseling).…

Yin, Robert K. – Review of Educational Research, 1991
R. T. Ogawa and B. Malen's article does not meet its own recommended standards for rigorous testing and presentation of its own conclusions. Use of the exploratory case study to analyze multivocal literatures is not supported, and the claim of grounded theory to analyze multivocal literatures may be stronger. (SLD)

Altschuld, James W.; Thomas, Phyllis M. – Evaluation Review, 1991
Three problems affecting the use of a modified scree test in analyzing Delphi survey data are discussed: (1) the adequacy of the criterion; (2) the complexity of decision making; and (3) the nature of the Delphi panel. Using the modified scree test with these considerations in mind is suggested. (SLD)

Velicer, Wayne F.; McDonald, Roderick P. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1991
The general transformation approach to time series analysis is extended to the analysis of multiple unit data by the development of a patterned transformation matrix. The procedure includes alternatives for special cases and requires only minor revisions in existing computer software. (SLD)

Al-Enad, Abdulrahman H. – Journalism Quarterly, 1991
Compares coverage of five subjects in eight daily newspapers, employing both factor analysis and Pearson correlations. Computes correlation coefficients among newspapers by using (1) size of individual stories as items; and (2) space measurements by categories. Finds that different ways of coding the same raw data produced different results. (SR)

Wildemuth, Barbara M. – Library and Information Science Research, 1990
Describes a method for inducing a theoretical model of a series of events that occur in an ongoing process. A data analysis method that transforms narrative data into event histories is explained, a spreadsheet display that compares event histories is described, and future research is suggested. Felder, Joseph – Journal of Economic Education, 1990
Explains and illustrates a simplified use of graphical analysis for analyzing the profit-maximizing firm. Believes that graphical analysis helps college students gain a deeper understanding of marginalism and an increased ability to formulate economic problems in marginalist terms. (DB)

Barr, Aiala; Sichel, Herbert S. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1991
Discussion of models for library circulation data highlights a new statistical prediction model that creates a flexible regression curve. Linear graphs that result from previous models are discussed, bivariate discrete distributions are explained, and graphs that show library circulation for one year at a time are presented. (nine references) (LRW)

Bybee, Deborah; Mowbray, Carol T. – Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal, 1993
This study applied criteria from Statement Validity Analysis (SVA) protocols to aggregate record review data of alleged sexual abuse of over 100 children in a day-care center. The use of SVA criteria supported the veritability of allegations in this case, with the data analysis reflecting consistency, logical structure, and spontaneity of…

Goldman-Segall, Ricki – Journal of Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia, 1993
Discussion of the analysis of video data recommends that data be layered. Theoretical issues are examined; the video methodologies of a graduate student researcher are described; and the use of a significance measure which allows users to layer or weigh the relative importance of topics with computer software is explained. (Contains 29…
