Luyben, Paul D.; And Others – College and Research Libraries, 1981
Discusses an experiment on controlling library noise by rearrangement of furniture groupings and the separation of existing clusters of furniture. While electromechanical tests showed no significant differences, user measures indicated more acceptable noise levels. There are numerous illustrations and 30 references. (RAA)

Wainer, Howard – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1980
A test of graphicacy was developed, administered to third- through fifth-grade schoolchildren, and scored using the Rasch model. Third-grade children were much poorer at reading graphs than fourth- or fifth-grade children, but the differences between these latter two groups were modest. (Author/JKS)

Shore, M. L. – Creative Computing, 1980
There are many uses for the shortest path algorithm presented which are limited only by our ability to recognize when a problem may be converted into the shortest path in a graph representation. (Author/TG)

Gibson, Robert W., Jr.; Kunkel, Barbara K. – Special Libraries, 1980
Explores the state-of-the-art of Japanese information activities, detailing the comprehensive national plan Japan has developed. The volume of scientific and technological publications is discussed: monographs and technical reports briefly, and periodicals in more depth, including subject areas, language of publication, and accessibility to…

Davis, Charles H.; Shaw, Debora – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1979
Random samples of monographic materials from U.S. and Canadian public libraries were matched with collections from similar libraries of different sizes. Strong positive correlation appears between percentage find rate and target library size, with regression analysis suggesting linearity over a wide range of collection sizes. (Author)

Marcus, B. Jerry – NASSP Bulletin, 1977
Suggests that before secondary principals can deal effectively with discipline problems, they should graph disciplinary incidents according to the school calendar in order to identify peak behavioral problem periods. (JG)

Hartley, James; Burnhill, Peter – Programmed Learning and Educational Technology, 1977
This paper presents guidelines for improving instructional text under three main headings: prose and grammatical features; tables and graphs; and typographical design. The paper has been printed in such a way as to illustrate the points made. (Author)

Oakes, John M. – Science Teacher, 1997
Presents an approach that combines the discovery method with graphing skills and allows students to uncover scientific laws on their own. Attempts to make the discovery method more quantitative while still teaching students how to think scientifically. (JRH)

Lipp, Alan – Mathematics Teacher, 2000
Presents a classification of factorable cubics and shows how the associated factor graphs determine domains of disconnected branches and furnish a skeletal framework for the number and shape of the branches. Illustrates three dimensional visualization and examines level curves and spikes of surfaces. (KHR)

Whitin, Phyllis; Whitin, David J. – Young Children, 2003
Describes how one kindergarten classroom made pictographs and paper graphs of the students' acting preferences for a production of "The Wizard of Oz." Focuses on how the activity led to varied mathematics and literacy connections. Identifies implications from the Oz experience, including relating graphs to classroom contexts, using…
