In this study with 240 introductory psychology students, ten interpretable independent dimensions of satisfaction with life were extracted with six factors that loaded on the PIL and four that loaded on the SONG, supporting Crumbaugh's assertion that the SONG is a complementary scale to the PIL. Two-point and three-point methods of classifying Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) profiles were compared using 174 students who sought psychological treatment at a student mental health clinic and who generated MMPI profiles with scales 2.7, and 8 as their highest evaluations. College students who made choices of major and occupation were classified according to Holland categories. Findings support the validity of the Holland typology, but also suggest that separate personality descriptions within each category should be provided for each sex. (Author)
