An analogue study was conducted to ascertain whether hiring preferences for psychologists are influenced by race, sex, marital status or physique. It was found that applicants who were either Black or female were preferred by the counseling center respondents, and that applicants who were without physical limitation were preferred. (Author)

Examined the prominence of intimacy concerns, i.e., connectedness and independent needs in a sample of women in the health professions, analyzing for age and marital status. Examined the extent to which the presence of a confidant, social network involvement, marital status, self-efficacy, religiosity, self-esteem, occupational status, and income served as coping resources for older adults (N=299). Results suggested that variables other than income were not significantly related to life changes. (NRB)

Compared 21 older clients of drug treatment facilities, 30 older abusers not in treatment, and 155 elderly nonabusers. Analyses suggested that age and gender affect the likelihood of receiving treatment more than the likelihood of being an abuser. Substance abuse appeared more prevalent among single elderly who lived alone. (JAC)
