Smith, Raymond G.; Nichols, Harold J. – Journal of Communication, 1973
Results indicate that the troublesome scale/concept interaction which in past studies has lowered the internal validity of many investigations can be reduced by the simple expedient of controlling for homogeneity of domain of scales and concepts employed. (Authors)

Horst, Paul – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1972
Author presents a method for calculating item factor scores which are independent of item trait scores. (MB)

Mueller, Daniel J. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1972
Paper reports on the use of a technique of item writing and item keying in personality scale construction which overcomes the drawbacks, while maximizing the advantages of unit response weighting. (Author)

Berger, Emanuel M. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1971
The proportion of cross-validated and suggestively discriminating items in the area of preference or aversion for a large variety of activities, most of all of which imply excitement or potential excitement, suggests this as the most important finding from the item analysis done in this study. Lauver, Philip J.; Froehle, Thomas C. – Counselor Education and Supervision, 1970
Concern is raised about the wording of the Counselor Education Program Innovation Index items and about the response format. The influence of perceived item ambiguity andresponse format bias upon the results of the inventory are noted. A suggestion is made for ACES sponsorship of research descriptive of what counselor educators do and with what…

Broadhurst, Norman A. – Sci Educ, 1970
Presents the procedures and results of an item analysis on the Watson- Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal Form Ym, based on the responses of 200 graduating high school students in South Australia. (LC)

Descriptors: Behavioral Science Research, Emotional Disturbances, Handicapped Children, Item Analysis
Brandenburg, Dale C. – Performance and Instruction, 1982
Discusses the design of effective questionnaires based on the concept of a hierarchical classification of Levels of Information: global (Level I), general concept (Level II), and specific (Level III). By tying question types to the information desired, the entire questionnaire can be improved. (JJD)

Thissen, David; Wainer, Howard – Psychometrika, 1982
The mathematics required to calculate the asymptotic standard errors of the parameters of three commonly used logistic item response models is described and used to generate values for common situations. Difficulties in using maximum likelihood estimation with the three parameter model are discussed. (Author/JKS)

Bornstein, R. A. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
The internal reliability of the Speech Sounds Perception Test was examined in two independent samples. Both indicated a significantly greater number of errors on the first half of the test; the largest number of errors occurred on Subtests B and A. Reliability coefficients and a performance classification formula are discussed. (Author/CM)

Shepard, Lorrie, And Others – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1981
Sixteen approaches for detecting item bias were compared on samples of Black, White, and Chicano elementary school pupils using the Lorge-Thorndike and Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices tests. Recommendations for practical use are made. (JKS)

Masters, Geoff N. – Psychometrika, 1982
An extension of the Rasch model for partial credit scoring of test items is presented. An unconditional maximum likelihood procedure for estimating the model parameters is developed. The relationship of this model to Andrich's Rating Scale model and Samejima's Graded Response model are discussed. (Author/JKS)
