Peer reviewedMorelli, B. – Education in Chemistry, 1978
Describes a simple method for establishing the end point in a volumetric analysis that will save time, and reduce both the titration error and the required amount of reagents. (GA)
Descriptors: Chemical Analysis, Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, College Science
Peer reviewedHunt, Jeffrey W. – American Biology Teacher, 1978
Exercises are presented for classification of marine algae on the basis of biochemical characteristics such as pigmentation, cell wall components, and food storage products. (BB)
Descriptors: Biochemistry, Botany, College Science, Higher Education
Peer reviewedRoscher, Nina Matheny; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Describes curriculum used by the Chemistry Department at the American University of Washington, D.C. in preparing and implementing a program to update two groups of women in order to prepare them to enter graduate school or return to the job market in chemistry. (HM)
Descriptors: Biochemistry, Chemistry, Extension Education, Females
Peer reviewedVidulich, George A.; Fratiello, Anthony – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Presents an undergraduate physical chemistry laboratory experiment describing the measurement of the proton magnetic resonance spectra. (HM)
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education, Instruction
Peer reviewedLynch, P. P. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1978
Establishes the extent to which practical work in South African high schools varies with respect to factors such as gender of student, type of school, medium of instruction, and examination board. Investigates the relationship between experience of experimental work and pupil attainment as measured by matriculation grade. (Author/GA)
Descriptors: Achievement, Educational Research, Instruction, Laboratory Procedures
Peer reviewedBaca, Glenn; Lewis, Dennis A. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
This experiment uses a nine-chambered plexiglas unit to facilitate rapid construction of galvanic cells and measurement of cell voltage. Using this procedure, a pair of students can construct and obtain the cell voltages of two precipitation cells, three concentration cells, and six redox cells in 30-40 minutes. (BB)
Descriptors: Chemical Equilibrium, Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, Higher Education
Peer reviewedMillikan, Roger C. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
The observation of soap bubbles in a beaker of carbon dioxide gas helps students to feel the pleasure that comes from understanding nature, from applying that understanding to real problems, and from making unexpected discoveries that yield to analysis. (Author/BB)
Descriptors: Chemical Equilibrium, Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, Higher Education
Peer reviewedGilbert, George L., Ed. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Suggestions on the preparation of various kinds of glass and a demonstration of burning magnesium and dry ice are presented. (CP)
Descriptors: Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, College Science, Demonstrations (Educational)
