Short, Byrl – 1976
Described is a qualitative analysis laboratory procedure for high school chemistry students. The paper received the Science Teaching Achievement Recognition (STAR) award. The procedure acquaints students with certain ions and uses the knowledge of ions to devise a flow-chart for separating and identifying these ions in an unknown solution. (SL)

Youngquist, G. R. – Chemical Engineering Education, 1979
This paper describes an experiment designed to reveal the consequences of the development of a concentration boundary layer. The rate of a mass transfer limited electrochemical reaction is measured and used to obtain the dependence of average Sherwood number on Reynolds number and entrance length. (Author/BB)

Wolf, Walter A., Ed. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1978
Reported here are brief descriptions of a common grading and scaling formula for large multi-section courses, an ion exchange amino acid separation and thin layer chromatography identification experiment, a conservation of energy demonstration, a catalyst for synthesizing esters from fatty aids, and an inexpensive method for preparing platinum…

O'Brien, Lawrence – Journal of Geological Education, 1978
Thin-section photomicrographs are used to introduce the introductory geology laboratory classes to many of the optical properties of minerals. Evaluation by questionnaire suggests that the study of thin sections has a positive effect on the enjoyment and understanding of rock identification and classification by introductory students.
