Albert Shanker, President of the American Federation of Teachers, argues that educational reform is a necessity. States that improved economic education must be a part of this reform. Asserts that problems in economic education cannot be properly addressed until improvements are made in the fundamental structure of schooling and teaching. (RKM)

This study tested the effectiveness of teaching concepts in high school economics first by verbal instruction and then by graphs or other imagery. Eighty-three high school seniors were taught by the method above, by reversing the order of that method, and by verbal instruction only. Results are discussed. (Author/MT)

A survey of 506 female home economists found that five factors influenced their choice of major: (1) the service ideal, (2) perceptions of personal roles, (3) secondary school home economics, (4) perception of home economics as "feminine," and (5) 4-H experience.
