Follow-up data on a program that screened 17 newborns for sickle cell anemia suggests that in order to derive maximum benefit from such screening physicians need to better understand the differential diagnosis, treatment, and inheritance of sickle cell disease, and individual guidance must be provided to families. The performance of 91 first grade students was compared using three screening tests of articulation: the Templin-Darley Screening Test of Articulation, the Screening Deep Test of Articulation, and the Predictive Screening Test of Articulation. There was poor correlation between tests in terms of the particular individuals failed. (Author/SEW)

The Canter Background Interference Procedure of the Bender Gestalt Test and the Quick Neurological Screening Test were found to discriminate neurological/organic signs in 23 adolescent learning disabled students. Administered the Slosson Intelligence Test (SIT) to 92 preschool children. Administered the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale to a sample of the group, and the results were compared to the results from the SIT. Results indicated the SIT overestimated the performance of average preschool children. (Author)

The relationship between the Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (MAST) and the subject's sex and income was significant. If male or poor, he was more likely to receive a higher score on MAST. The relationship between neurological examinations and scores on the Quick Neurological Screening Test (QNST) was analyzed for 353 undifferentiated students in the general population and 204 students with known or suspected learning problems.
