Grimm, Hannelore; Weinert, Sabine – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1990
Comparison of dysphasic children (N=8) with control children found that the dysphasic children's language development was both delayed and deviant, and that the children's deviant syntax structures were the result of insufficient language processing and could not be traced back to structural characteristics of the sentences used by their mothers.…

The paper reports data from four studies using the Language Development Survey (LDS), a screening tool for the identification of language delay in two-year-old children. Whitehurst, Grover J.; And Others – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1991
A natural language sample of babble and words was obtained for 47 2-year-old children and compared with expressive language scores 5 months later. More than 50 percent of the variance in language outcome test scores was accounted for by rate of word use, rate of vowel babble, and behavior problems. (Author/DB)

Phonetic inventories of nine children (5 years old or younger) with profoundly impaired hearing who used the 22-electrode cochlear implant were monitored before implantation and during the first four years of implant use. Kelly, Donna J. – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1998
Reviews the literature on late talkers, children producing fewer than 50 words and/or limited word combinations by 24 months of age. Greenspan, Stanley I. – Early Childhood Today, 2005
It is very important to determine if a bilingual child's language delay is simply in English or also in the child's native language. Understandably, many children have higher levels of language development in the language spoken at home. To discover if this is the case, observe the child talking with his parents. Sometimes, even without…
