A three-day teaching unit increased positive responses of 27 fifth-grade sighted students about visual impairments. Lessons included a discussion of the nature and causes of visual impairment, the use of sighted guide techniques, and a presentation by a blind teacher. (CL)

Budoff, Milton; And Others – Education and Training of the Mentally Retarded, 1979
A survey of 1,142 normal students in grades 4 through 12 indicated that they knew very little about mental retardation and the mentally retarded. Only about half of the respondents made reference to "subaverage general intellectual functioning," while references to physical impairment were frequent. (DLS)
