Investigated were the effects of Massachusetts Law Chapter 766 (a comprehensive education-reform law relating to handicapped children) and P.L. 94-142 (Education for All Handicapped Children Act) on 211 public school speech, language, and hearing clinicians approximately 14 months after its implementation. Concludes that both able and less able eighth grade readers who read text versions in which key concepts and the relations between them had been explained thoroughly learned significantly more word meanings than did students who read any of the other versions. (FL)

A high school teacher tells how student talk became an integral part of her teaching program. She devised oral language activities, including reading aloud, debate, and small group discussions.
