Shen, Jianping – Journal of Experimental Education, 1997
The factorial validity of four models of conceptualization of educational goals as a construct was studied through the confirmatory factor analysis of empirical data from 1,134 education faculty members. Results support a four-factor model, with dimensions of academic, vocational, personal, and social goals. (SLD)

Sayers, Steven L.; And Others – Psychological Assessment, 1996
Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to examine the underlying structure of negative symptoms of schizophrenia as measured by the Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms (SANS). CFA results from the assessment of 401 patients were largely supported by CFA results from a second assessment of 345 patients. (SLD)

Kahn, Jeffrey H.; Gelso, Charles J. – Counseling Psychologist, 1997
The research training environment has been described as all the forces in graduate training programs that reflect attitudes toward research and science. Examined the factor structure of the Research Training Environment Scale-Revised in a sample of 270 undergraduate students. Analyses suggest that an instructional dimension and an interpersonal…

Zalaquett, Carlos P.; McManus, Pamela W. – Journal of College Student Development, 1996
Analyzed a 64-item checklist used in a university counseling center by collecting data from 226 closed client files. The checklist was analyzed in terms of its factor structure and the reliability of its resultant subscales. Analysis indicates that the problem checklist could be reduced from 64 to 44 items and can reliably assess 10 factors. (KW)

Cady, Mary E.; And Others – Journal of Child and Adolescent Substance Abuse, 1996
The Problem Recognition Questionnaire (PRQ), administered to 234 adolescents undergoing chemical dependency treatment, was examined with respect to its reliability, factor structure, and predictive validity. Results indicate that the PRQ (a measure of adolescent motivation to change substance-use behaviors) has acceptable reliability and potential…

Heppner, P. Paul; Pretorius, T. B.; Wei, Meifen; Lee, Dong-gwi; Wang, Yu-Wei – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 2002
Examines the generalizability of the Problem Solving Inventory (PSI) through research with Black South African samples. The estimates of the factor structure as well as other reliability and validity estimates provided strong support for the generalizability of the PSI to South African Black college students. The results also provided partial…

Tran, Thanh V.; Ngo, Dung; Conway, Kerry – Social Work Research, 2003
This study developed a culturally valid measure of depressive symptoms among Vietnamese Americans in two ways--by systematically exploring issues of cultural meaning and gender differences, and by using current methodological tools to assess the factor structure of a widely used depression scale. (Contains 38 references and 2 tables.) (GCP)

Cairns, Robert B.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1989
A six-year study investigated relationships between individual development and: (1) changes in aggressive expression; (2) continuities of aggressive behavior in girls and boys; and (3) convergence between self-concepts and social attributions of others in ontogeny. Participants were 220 fourth grade students who were followed from childhood…

Harpur, Timothy J.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1988
Examined whether Psychopathology Checklist contains stable and replicable factor structure by factor-analyzing data from male prisoners (N=1,119) in Canada, United States, and England. Found two-factor solution replicated in all samples. Factor 1 defined by personality traits: superficiality; habitual lying/manipulation; callousness; lack of…

Norris, Stephen P. – Alberta Journal of Educational Research, 1995
Examines effects of 5 test-format differences on performance of 15 critical-thinking measures. Scores of 172 Canadian high school students on all measures generated a correlation matrix that was best accounted for by a 5-factor model postulating critical-thinking, context, and credibility judgment factors. Multiple-choice and constructed-response…

St. Lawrence, Janet S.; And Others – Psychological Assessment, 1994
The Condom Attitude Scale by W.P. Saco and others (1991) was modified for use with adolescents. Four studies involving 595 African American and 52 white adolescents demonstrate acceptable internal consistency, a stable factor structure, and criterion and convergent validity with other measures conceptually related to condom use attitudes. Connolly, Jennifer A.; Konarski, Roman – Journal of Research on Adolescence, 1994
Examined peer self-concept and its associations with structural and qualitative features of peer experiences in high school students. Found that both peer network structure and…

Carroll, John B. – Intelligence, 1991
Because they used an inappropriate statistical procedure, J. H. Kranzler and A. R. Jensen (1991) have not demonstrated that a factor of general intelligence ("g") depends on several independent factors. A factorial reanalysis of their data suggests that speed and efficiency of information processing are important in "g." (SLD)

Kranzler, John H.; Jensen, Arthur R. – Intelligence, 1991
The hypothetical idea of a perfectly pure psychometric "g" is empirically unattainable. Because the unity of "g" cannot be proved or disproved by factor analysis, the unitary "g" hypothesis represents a parsimonious assumption. J. B. Carroll's (1991) analysis demonstrates the relationship between psychometric and…
