Dziuban, Charles D.; And Others – 1976
The distributional characteristics of the Kaiser-Rice measure of sampling adequacy (MSA) were investigated with sample correlation matrices from multivariate normal populations where the level of correlation (LC) was systematically varied. Two additional variables were manipulated--sample size (SS) and number of variables (NV). Ten matrices were…

Wilcox, Rand R. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1987
Four procedures are discussed for obtaining a confidence interval when answer-until-correct scoring is used in multiple choice tests. Simulated data show that the choice of procedure depends upon sample size. (GDC)

Chen, Huey-Tsyh; Ross, Peter H. – Evaluation and Program Planning, 1987
A theory-driven approach to validity is proposed. The central argument is that a model or theory should be formulated in a program evaluation and the modeling process should include the identification of potential threats to validity in research. (Author/LMO)

Murphy, Shirley A.; Stewart, Barbara J. – Omega: Journal of Death and Dying, 1986
Describes a sampling strategy which involves linked pairs of persons used to obtain bereaved respondents for a study examining loss and coping responses following a recent natural disaster. The sampling procedure appeared not to produce an obvious bias and was very beneficial in meeting the research objectives. (Author/NRB)

Bollen, Kenneth A. – Psychometrika, 1986
This note shows that, contrary to what has been claimed, Bentler and Bonnett's nonnormed fit index is dependent on sample size. Specifically for a constant value of a fitting function, the nonnormed index is inversely related to sample size. A simple alternative fit measure is proposed that removes this dependency. McClain, Andrew L. – 1995
The present paper discusses criticisms of statistical significance testing from both historical and contemporary perspectives. Statistical significance testing is greatly influenced by sample size and often results in meaningless information being over-reported. Variance-accounted-for-effect sizes are presented as an alternative to statistical…

Finch, Holmes; Huynh, Huynh – 2000
One set of approaches to the problem of clustering with dichotomous data in cluster analysis (CA) was studied. The techniques developed for clustering with binary data involve calculating distances between observations based on the variables and then applying one of the standard CA algorithms to these distances. One of the groups of distances that…

Bonett, Douglas G.; Seier, Edith – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 2003
Derived a confidence interval for a ratio of correlated mean absolute deviations. Simulation results show that it performs well in small sample sizes across realistically nonnormal distributions and that it is almost as powerful as the most powerful test examined by R. Wilcox (1990). (SLD)

Zwick, Rebecca – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1997
Recent simulations have shown that, for a given sample size, the Mantel-Haenszel (MH) variances tend to be larger when items are administered to randomly selected examinees than when they are administered adaptively. Results suggest that adaptive testing may lead to more efficient application of MH differential item functioning analyses. (SLD)

Boik, Robert J. – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 1997
An analysis of repeated measures designs is proposed that uses an empirical Bayes estimator of the covariance matrix. The proposed analysis behaves like a univariate analysis when sample size is small or sphericity nearly satisfied, but behaves like multivariate analysis when sample size is large or sphericity is strongly violated. Douglas, Jeff – Psychometrika, 1997
Explores the asymptotic theory of a method of nonparametric item characteristic curve estimation based on kernel smoothing with the theory of obtaining the proper linear ordering of examinees with respect to their true latent abilities. Results support the usefulness of estimates of the type produced by the TESTGRAF program. (SLD)

Algina, James; And Others – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1989
Estimated Type I error rates and power are reported for six tests of variance. Normal and non-normal distributions of a two-group design were investigated. Tests developed by M. B. Brown and A. B. Forsythe and by R. G. O'Brien were considered most useful. Implications are discussed. (SLD)

Tisak, John; Meredith, William – Psychometrika, 1989
A longitudinal factor analysis model that is entirely exploratory is proposed for use with multiple populations. Factorial collapse, period/practice effects, and an invariant and/or stationary factor pattern are allowed. The model is formulated stochastically and implemented via a stage-wise EM algorithm. (TJH)

MacCallum, Robert C.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1994
Alternative strategies for two-sample cross-validation of covariance structure models are described and investigated. Results of an empirical sampling study show that for tighter strategies simpler models are preferred in smaller samples, but when cross-validation is employed, a more complex model is supported even for small samples.
