Unlearning through Film: Reflections on a Workshop in Transdisciplinary Pedagogy
Blandine Joret
Taboo: The Journal of Culture and Education, v23 n1 p6-15 2025
This article is a reflection on a teacher training workshop organized around the use of film in the process of unlearning and its value in inclusive and transdisciplinary classrooms. The intention was to put film at work in soliciting various personal/cultural/scholarly backgrounds as partial knowledges within a larger, transcultural encounter. Without resorting to theory, a working definition of unlearning prior to the collective viewing and after-talk emphasized the critical process to let go of conventional ways of seeing, thereby enabling new ways of knowing and seeing. By bringing together various perspectives on the notion of unlearning in this reflection, the author aims to offer a historical context and practice-based evaluation for using film in transdisciplinary education.
