West, Thomas – JAC: A Journal of Composition Theory, 1997
Seeks to go beyond the easy binary of "racist" and "non-racist" to "rhetoricize the cultural signification of whiteness." Posits a view of identity as identification. Argues that seeing identity as a set of provisional identifications may encourage dialog about racism which is not stalled by guilt and/or denial about the connection of white…

Hoveid, Halvor; Hoveid, Marit Honerod – Studies in Philosophy and Education, 2008
In this paper we try, by drawing on some insights from practical knowledge, to bridge a gap between common conceptions of teaching on the one hand, and of learning on the other. In Western traditions of educational thought and discourse, practical knowledge--i.e. the dynamics of thinking, speaking, acting, and personal writing--is frequently…

Bennett, Mark; Sani, Fabio – Developmental Science, 2008
We contend that previous work on children's identification with social groups has looked at the mere categorization of the self in group terms and not subjective identification properly conceived. Drawing upon self-categorization theory, the present research operationalizes identification as self-stereotyping (i.e. the ability to conceive of the…

Charman, Steve D.; Wells, Gary L. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied, 2008
Real-world eyewitnesses are often asked whether their lineup responses were affected by various external influences, but it is unknown whether they can accurately answer these types of questions. The witness-report-of-influence mental-correction model is proposed to explain witnesses' reports of influence. Two experiments used a new paradigm (the…

Qu, Zhengwei – Frontiers of Education in China, 2008
When we tend to analyze the living conditions of teachers, system arrangement and identity identification can be considered a significant method for analysis. Schein, Jerome D.; Miller, Maurice H. – American Annals of the Deaf, 2008

Micheyl, Christophe; Kaernbach, Christian; Demany, Laurent – Psychological Review, 2008
In many psychophysical experiments, the participant's task is to detect small changes along a given stimulus dimension or to identify the direction (e.g., upward vs. downward) of such changes. The results of these experiments are traditionally analyzed with a constant-variance Gaussian (CVG) model or a high-threshold (HT) model. Here, the authors…
