Peer reviewedRogers, Stacy J.; May Dee C. – Journal of Marriage and Family, 2003
Investigated process of spillover between marital quality and job satisfaction among married individuals. Results indicated increases in marital satisfaction were significantly related to increases in job satisfaction, and increases in marital discord were significantly related to declines in job satisfaction. These processes operate similarly for…

Peer reviewedLarson, Gerald E.; Alderton, David L. – Intelligence, 1990
To clarify the relationships between reaction time (RT) variability and intelligence, RT distributions from 303 male Navy recruits were partitioned into 16 fast-to-slow latency bands calculated with measures of mental ability. The slowest bands (worst trials) were the best predictors of intelligence and working memory performance. (SLD)
Descriptors: Adults, Cognitive Ability, Comparative Analysis, Individual Differences
Thousand, Jacqueline S.; Burchard, Sara – American Journal on Mental Retardation, 1990
The study applying the theory of reasoned action found that special education teachers' (N=28) intentions to structure integration opportunities were predicted from measures of attitude and subjective norm; actual reported structuring of opportunities was weakly predicted by intention and the antecedent of attitude. (Author/DB)
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, Disabilities, Elementary Secondary Education, Predictive Measurement
Peer reviewedKing, Suzanne – American Annals of the Deaf, 1990
Two causal models of career development differing in inclusion or noninclusion of variables unique to the experience of the hearing impaired were compared for their ability to explain variance in career maturity, with data from 71 hearing-impaired adolescents. Results suggest neither model is more powerful in explaining career maturity variance.…
Descriptors: Adolescents, Career Development, Comparative Analysis, Hearing Impairments
Peer reviewedGross, Alan L. – Psychometrika, 1990
A model is proposed for investigating test validity as a predictor of a criterion variable when there are both missing and censored scores in the data set. Implications for maximum likelihood estimation are discussed, and the method is illustrated with hypothetical data sets. (SLD)
Descriptors: Equations (Mathematics), Mathematical Models, Maximum Likelihood Statistics, Predictive Measurement
Peer reviewedLehmann, Donald R.; Gupta, Sunil – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1989
Path Analysis of Covariance Matrix (PACM) is described as a way to separately estimate measurement and structural models using standard least squares procedures. PACM was empirically compared to simultaneous maximum likelihood estimation and use of the LISREL computer program, and its advantages are identified. (SLD)
Descriptors: Estimation (Mathematics), Least Squares Statistics, Mathematical Models, Maximum Likelihood Statistics
Peer reviewedBurrell, Quentin L. – Journal of Documentation, 1989
Discussion of bibliometrics focuses on methods of predicting the number of new journals carrying relevant articles in the future, using both established parametric approaches and newer empirical methods. Parametric models and empirical Bayes models are used to compare examples using previous bibliographies compiled by Bradford and Kendall. (13…

Milner, Joel S.; Robertson, Kevin R. – Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal, 1989
A study examined the responses of 89 physical child abusers and 108 comparison subjects to the Child Abuse Potential Inventory to determine whether the inventory's response inconsistency scale could be used for screening for physical child abuse. The scale was rejected as a reliable or valid measure. (Author/MSE)

Dalgleish, Lenard I.; Drew, Elisabeth C. – Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal, 1989
This paper operationally defines a set of indicators for the decision to separate the child and family in child abuse cases. Application of the indicators to 152 cases of suspected child abuse in Australia found that severity of abuse, parenting, and the family social system were most predictive of a final separation outcome. (Author/DB)

Peer reviewedRose, Susan A.; And Others – Child Development, 1988
Forty-six full-term and 54 high-risk preterm infants were tested at six, seven, and/or eight months of age (corrected age for preterms) on assessments of visual recognition memory and tactual-visual cross-modal transfer. Scores significantly predicted Stanford-Binet IQ scores. Stability coefficients attained the highest degree of predictive…
Descriptors: Comparative Testing, Infants, Intelligence Tests, Memory
Peer reviewedMartin, Anne – Harvard Educational Review, 1988
The author, a kindergarten teacher, examines the effects of special needs intervention on classroom life. She comments that often a special education focus overemphasizes children's weaknesses. The author suggests that special educators and classroom teachers collaborate to produce an understanding of the context of individual children's lives.…
Descriptors: Case Studies, Individual Needs, Predictive Measurement, Preschool Tests
Peer reviewedRainer, R. Kelly, Jr.; Miller, Marc D. – Computers in Human Behavior, 1996
Presents the results of multiple regression analysis, test-retest analysis, reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis of the Computer Attitude Scale in order to assess the instrument's predictive ability, construct validity, and reliability. Findings indicate acceptable characteristics, including stability…
Descriptors: Construct Validity, Evaluation, Factor Analysis, Measures (Individuals)
Peer reviewedGreenblatt, Richard L.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1992
The diagnostic accuracy of nonadjusted and bootstrapped diagnosis was compared using a sample of 1,455 psychiatric patients who completed the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory. The usefulness of bootstrapping depended on the criteria for accuracy. Conditions under which bootstrapping might increase diagnostic accuracy are detailed. (SLD)
Descriptors: Clinical Diagnosis, Comparative Analysis, Diagnostic Tests, Patients
Peer reviewedJones, W. P. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1991
A model is proposed for the clinical synthesis of data from psychological tests of persons with visual impairments. The model integrates the concepts of the ideal type and Bayesian probability and compares actual test scores with ideal scores through use of a pattern similarity coefficient. A pilot study with Business Enterprise Program operators…
Descriptors: Business Education, Clinical Psychology, Models, Predictive Measurement
Peer reviewedMorris, John D.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1991
Classification accuracies of models for predicting later high school dropouts from data available in student records for grades 4 through 8 were examined for 503 dropouts and 282 persisters (nondropouts) in Florida. Separate prediction models for each grade level have practical importance; implications for dropout prediction are discussed. (SLD)
