Peer reviewedPrifitera, Aurelio; Ryan, Joseph J. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1981
Investigated the validity of the Luria-Nebraska Intellectual Processes Scale (IPS) as a substitute for the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). IPS scores were correlated with the three WAIS IQs, and regression equations were computed to obtain estimated Verbal IQ, Performance IQ, and Full Scale IQ. (Author)

Peer reviewedWatts, Fraser N.; Everitt, Brian S. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
The pattern of correlations between subtests suggests that several of the aptitudes are of doubtful validity. In no case was it possible to extract more than three adequately determined factors. (Author)

Flast, Robert H. – Personnel Journal, 1977
Noting that government agencies can better measure a company's compliance with affirmative action policies if the company uses predictive techniques, two such techniques--the flow model and the optimizing--are described and briefly compared. (SH)

A correlation matrix of right and wrong answers to Gorham's Proverbs Test was reordered into a Simplex pattern which clearly supported the possibility of a developmental sequence. (JC)

Peer reviewedHarasym, P. H.; And Others – Advances in Physiology Education, 1995
Results from the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) for 259 nursing students were compared with achievement on examinations in an anatomy and physiology course. Factor analysis demonstrated no relationship between examination scores and any of the individual personality traits purported to be measured by MBTI. Analysis of variance revealed no…

Peer reviewedYoung, I. Phillip; Delli, Dane A. – Educational Administration Quarterly, 2002
Preemployment responses on commercial interview protocol purported to predict future teacher performance are assessed relative to postemployment ratings of principals and to behavioral actions of newly hired teachers. Results indicate that a percentage of the systematic variance associated with postemployment performance is accounted for by…

Peer reviewedLejuez, C. W.; Aklin, Will M.; Zvolensky, Michael J.; Pedulla, Christina M. – Journal of Adolescence, 2003
A sample of 26 adolescents tested the utility of the Balloon Analogue Risk Task (BART) as a behavioral measure of risk-taking propensity. Data indicate that riskyness on the BART was related to self-reported engagement in real-world risk-taking behaviors. These data suggest that the BART may be a useful addition to self-report batteries for the…

Peer reviewedFleming, Jacqueline – Review of Higher Education, 2002
Analyses found that: (1) the SAT predicts academic success more accurately for Black students in predominantly Black rather than White colleges; (3) the SAT predicts best for Black males in Black colleges but worst for Black males in White colleges; and (4) the SAT-GPA correlation is strongest for high-achieving Black students who focus on…

Peer reviewedBurrell, Quentin L. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1990
Argues that the gamma mixture of Poisson processes, for all its perceived defects, can be used to make predictions regarding future library book circulations of a quality adequate for general management requirements. The use of the model is extensively illustrated with data from two academic libraries. (Nine references) (CLB)

Peer reviewedGilman, David A.; Swan, Edward – NASSP Bulletin, 1989
While grade point averages and class rank are firmly entrenched in our educational system, they are not particularly reliable or valid indicators of student achievement. Introducing weighted grades creates additional problems. If schools were to eliminate this system, some motivation for grades and easy coursework would disappear. Includes four…

Peer reviewedZoski, Keith; Jurs, Stephen – Evaluation Review, 1991
The concerns about the use of a modified scree test in analyzing data from Delphi surveys may not be important if the scree test data are weighted. Factors important to the study can be incorporated into the test, and the ordinate on the graph can be labeled accordingly. (SLD)

Peer reviewedGraesser, Arthur C.; McMahen, Cathy L. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1993
Whether anomalous information causes an increase in questions generated by college students as they solve quantitative problems or comprehend stories was studied in 5 experiments involving 160 undergraduates. Results support an anomaly hypothesis that predicts more questions when there are anomalous transformations of original problems or stories.…

Ofiesh, Nicole S. – Journal of Postsecondary Education and Disability, 2000
Examined whether processing speed tests can predict the benefits of extended test time for college students with learning disabilities. Found that the Visual Matching and Cross Out tests from the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Ability-Revised were significantly correlated with the benefit of extended test time, while the Digit Symbol subtest…
