Yang, June – Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education, 1985
A study of the reliability of oral tests in a medical school illustrates the use of a balanced incomplete block design, chosen when not all participating examiners can rate each examinee, for experimental research. (MSE)

Halote, Barry; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The construct validity of a 17-item exploratory academic self-concept subscale derived from the Piers-Harris Chidlren's Self-Concept Scale was investigated. Its empirical factor structure and its correlation with two other academic self-concept instruments were analyzed. Research use only is recommended pending rewriting of this exploratory…

Michael, William B.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The development and construct validation of the Dimensions of Self-Concept (DOSC), Form H, are described. The 20-item subscales of the preliminary research form furnished parallel estimates of reliability ranging from .83 to .91. The five subscales show promising construct validity, as evidenced by their factor structure. (Author/BW)

Merritt, Sharon L.; Marshall, Jon Clark – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The Learning Style Inventory assesses learners' preferences. This study was designed to determine reliability and construct validity of Kolb's original ipsative instrument and an alternate normative form. The alternate version was found as reliable as the original, was equivalent in measuring characteristics, and demonstrated comparable construct…

Wolk, Steve – Journal of Experimental Education, 1984
Stability of measurement of basic achievement skills in reading and mathematics was evaluated for a large special education population. Test-retest coefficients reflected adequate stability for a national sample of hearing-impaired students. The major handicapping condition of the population did not differentially affect measurement stability.…

Mathews, Gary S. – School Administrator, 1985
Discusses the necessity for the use of test score data in measuring school effectiveness. Outlines the types of tests best suited to particular schools. (MD)

Sharma, K. K.; Gupta, J. K. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1986
This paper gives a mathematical treatment to findings of Zimmerman and Williams and establishes a minimum reliability for gain scores when the pretest and posttest have equal reliabilities and equal standard deviations. It discusses the behavior of the reliability of gain scores in terms of variations in other test parameters. (Author/LMO)

Lanning, Wayne – Counselor Education and Supervision, 1986
Describes the development of an instrument to measure the areas of emphasis established by a supervisor with a trainee. Includes the procedures used to establish the content, the basis for necessary revisions, and the statistical reliabilities that were obtained for each subscale and the total instrument. Suggestions for future research using the…

Hall, Bruce W. – Journal of Educational Research, 1986
Forty-six achievement tests were compared for content validity, criterion-related validity, reliability, and norms. Results show that more popular tests provide the user with technical data in the critical areas examined, although the information provided may be incomplete. (Author/MT)

Piotrowski, Chris; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The factor structure of the Adult Norwicki-Strickland I-E Scale, sampling 174 college students, indicated differential factor dimensionality for males and females. The findings also support the contention that I-E is multidimensional in nature; however, these dimensions reflecting factorial validity have not been found to be consistently reliable…

Hopkins, Kenneth D.; Hodge, Stephen E. – Journal of Counseling & Development, 1984
Questions the construct validity, representatives of the norms, and reliability of the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children. While the K-ABC is attractively produced and easy to administer, reliance on a particular theory restricts the range of cognitive abilities sampled. (JAC)

Diaz, Joseph O. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability of the Spanish translation of the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory with a group of Puerto Rican students on the island and another on the mainlands. It was found to be reliable for both groups. (Author/BW)

Naglieri, Jack A.; Pfeiffer, Steven I. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Explored the relationship between the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R) and the Peabody Individual Achievement Test (PIAT) administered to a sample of 29 mentally retarded children. Findings indicated that the PPVT-R predicted achievement as measured by the PIAT only moderately; and that PPVT-R scores correlated with achievement…

Homburg, Taco Justus – TESOL Quarterly, 1984
Discusses the relationship between subjective evaluation and objective measures of ESL writing proficiency. Objective measures used in this study accounted for 84 percent of the variance of subjective grades assigned to a sample of compositions. Author suggests that training readers can be important to the reliability and the validity of the…
