Peer reviewedLoo, Robert – Psychology: A Quarterly Journal of Human Behavior, 1980
Results of statistical analyses suggest that high lie-scorers respond honestly, and that the Lie Scale for the Eysenck Personality Inventory may reflect a personality dimension of interest rather than an extraneous and undesirable factor to be eliminated. (Author)
Descriptors: Discriminant Analysis, Multidimensional Scaling, Personality Measures, Personality Traits
Peer reviewedSchell, Leo M. – Journal of Reading, 1980

Peer reviewedHocevar, Dennis; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
Two multitrait-multimethod studies were conducted to investigate the effects of two scoring formulas. A percentage formula did enhance discriminant validity when originality ratings were subjectively determined. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Creativity, Creativity Tests, Divergent Thinking, Grade 5
Peer reviewedRidgeway, Doreen; Russell, James A. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1980
Psychometric properties of Zuckerman's Sensation Seeking Scale were examined. Evidence supported the theoretical notion of an individual difference variable in arousal-seeking. Other evidence, however, suggested that measurement problems continue to hamper research: the total score was moderately reliable, but the subscales were only marginally…
Descriptors: Arousal Patterns, Behavior Rating Scales, Foreign Countries, Personality
Peer reviewedLaSasso, Carol – American Annals of the Deaf, 1980
Although the cloze procedure was shown to be satisfactorily reliable with deaf Ss, cloze scores did not relate to the predicted passage difficulty; therefore, the validity of the cloze procedure as a readability measure was not confirmed. (Author/DLS)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Cloze Procedure, Deafness, Evaluation Methods
Peer reviewedBlake, Anthony J. D. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1980
Investigated the predictive power of two written tests of Piagetian developmental level, The Understanding in Science Test and the Reasoning Test. Descriptors: Cognitive Development, Cognitive Style, Cognitive Tests, Reading Achievement
Peer reviewedMorris, John D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
This study compared double cross-validation replication predictive accuracies of six types of factor scores with full-rank data by utilizing data in which classroom achievement was predicted from affective and cognitive variables. Prediction was significantly more accurate for factor scores than for full-rank data. (Author/CP)
Descriptors: Affective Measures, Cognitive Tests, Factor Analysis, Factor Structure
Peer reviewedMatthews, Kenneth M.; Chan, Tak Cheung – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
Valid measures of achievement need must consider both specific discipline and motivational factors within each discipline. Four factors influence a student's achievement need: self-concept of ability, attitudes toward teachers, teacher expectations, and future value of courses. (CP)
Descriptors: Achievement Need, Attitude Measures, Elementary Secondary Education, Intellectual Disciplines
Peer reviewedRimm, Sylvia; Davis, Gary A. – Journal of Creative Behavior, 1980
It is concluded, among other things, that although GIFT criterion related validity is modest, it predicts creativity about as well as other more complicated instruments, and its reliability is much better than teacher ratings or nominations; and that it also appears to have international and cross cultural face validity. (DLS)
Descriptors: Creativity, Creativity Research, Creativity Tests, Cross Cultural Studies
Peer reviewedAnd Others; Liu, Philip – Journal of Medical Education, 1980
A method of statistically analyzing clinical performance examinations for reliability and the application of this method in determining the reliability of two examinations of skill in administering anesthesia are described. Descriptors: College Faculty, English Instruction, Essay Tests, Higher Education
Peer reviewedRoberts, Dennis M.; Bilderback, Edward W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
A 34-item scale entitled Statistics Attitude Survey (SAS) was developed and administered to three samples of students taking a beginning statistics course. Analyses showed that the scale was highly homogeneous and that total scale scores had moderate correlations with statistics grades. (Author)
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, College Mathematics, College Students, Higher Education
Peer reviewedKlein, Alice E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
The Screening Test of Academic Readiness (STAR) was administered to three samples of kindergarten pupils. Results showed that two oblique factors emerged which had limited meaning. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Diagnostic Tests, Factor Structure, Kindergarten Children, Predictive Validity
Knapp, Thomas R. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1980
Supports arguments against general use of change scores and recommends the Lord/McNemar estimates of true change. Provides a numerical example illustrating the reliability problem and the problem of the prediction of true change from various linear composites of initial and final measures. (Author)
Descriptors: Counseling Techniques, Literature Reviews, Pretests Posttests, Research Methodology
Hansen, Jo-Ida C.; Stocco, Jeffrey L. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1980
