Teachers of language arts charged with selecting books for class instruction should consider their responsibility to students, the educational program, and the greater community.

Major efforts should be made to foster an appreciation of research evidence to support evaluative judgments and to apply theoretical concepts from educational psychology and instructional media. With such efforts a more "scientific" evaluation of learning resources could be developed. (Author)
