Harwell, Michael; Serlin, Ronald C. – 2002
When normality does not hold, nonparametric tests represent an important data-analytic alternative to parametric tests. However, the use of nonparametric tests in educational research has been limited by the absence of easily performed tests for complex experimental designs and analyses, such as factorial designs and multiple regression analyses,…

Hsu, Yaowen; Ackerman, Terry A.; Fan, Meichu – 1999
It has previously been shown that the Bock-Aitkin procedure (R. Bock and M. Aitkin, 1981) is an instance of the EM algorithm when trying to find the marginal maximum likelihood estimate for a discrete latent ability variable (latent trait). In this paper, it is shown that the Bock-Aitkin procedure is a numerical implementation of the EM algorithm…

Peer reviewedFreund, James L. – Industrial and Labor Relations Review, 1974
This study tested the effects of market forces and unionism on the wages of all municipal employees in a large number of cities. Increases in the average weekly earnings from 1965-1971 were significantly related to intercity differences in market factors. Unionism exerted only a weak influence on city pay scales. (Author/DS)

Peer reviewedBart, William M.; Krus, David J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1973
With the ordering-theoretic method of item hierarchy construction any array of bivalued item data can be analyzed to determine the item hierarchy structure. (Authors)

Peer reviewedSchonemann, Peter H. – Psychometrika, 1972
Paper shows that an obvious generalization of the subjective metrics model by Bloxom, Horan, Carroll and Chang has a very simple algebraic solution which was previously considered by Meredith in a different context. (Author)

Peer reviewedHolman, Eric W. – Psychometrika, 1972
Two models for psychological distances, the hierarchical clustering model and the multidimensional Euclidean model, are compared to see how they relate to each other. (Author/RK)

In the present article it is argued that the Least Squares Simplex Data Matrix Solution does not deal adequately with difficulty factors inasmuch as the theoretical foundation is insufficient. (Author/CB)

McNamara, James F. – Journal of Educational Data Processing, 1972
Contributes to a better understanding of operations research (OR) as it can be applied in educational research and planning. Following definitions of OR and educational planning, a brief overview of a general decision model used in OR studies is presented. (Author/DN)

The intent of this paper is to generalize the min and max clustering procedures in such a way that the assumption of a symmetric similarity measure is unnecessary. (Author)

When teaching elementary concepts on information theory a problem keeps reoccurring which, if only for pedagogical reasons, deserves discussion. (Author)
