Presents data from a longitudinal study, based on a sample of 632 Aberdeen school children (ages 11-16), on the development of peer and parental influences during adolescence. Reports that parental influence substantially diminished, but it was not replaced by peer influence: deference to parents remained strong over time. (KH)

Maziade, Michael; And Others – Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, 1984
Temperament was measured at ages four and eight months on a sample of infants representing the five Holingshead social classes. A typology very similar to the New York Longitudinal Study's "easy/difficult" axis was found in both age groups. No influences of social class and gender differences on temperament were found. (CI)

Eysenck, Sybil B. G.; Dimitriou, E. C. – Social Behavior and Personality, 1984
Administered the Junior Eysenck Personality Questionnaire to boys (N=1117) and girls (N=1199) in Greece for standardization purposes. Results indicated that factor comparisons between England and Greece are reasonably high, strongly suggesting identical factors in both countries. (LLL)

Examined Holland personality types in a case study of three generations of one family (N=15) and eight significant others. Using the Compatibility Index, parental influence on development of males was demonstrated. There was general evidence of similarity of Holland types between parents and children. (JAC)

Scores of 14 percent of 103 learning disabled eight- to 13-year-olds on the Children's Depression Inventory were at or above the critical cutoff. Comparison of most versus least depressed Ss revealed that the former were lower in self-esteem, oversensitive, and shared traits associated with neuroticism. (Author/CL)

In this study, androgynous and masculine individuals reported less fear of success than feminine or undifferentiated individuals, and fear of success was related more to absence of masculine traits than presence of feminine ones. Used a programmable Hewlett-Packard scientific calculator to rapidly convert raw scores from adolescent MMPI protocols to T scores, scale by scale. The K factor is handled, as needed, automatically. Complete scoring and profiling of the R-form MMPI can be done in less than 10 minutes. (Author/JAC)

Tested Hartmann's (1973) hypothesis that consistent short sleepers tend to be nonworriers while long sleepers tend to worry. Indian college students (N=50) classified as long or short sleepers took the Hindi version of Sinha Anxiety Scale. Results showed short sleepers had higher levels of anxiety, questioning Hartmann's results. (JAC)

Compared the early recollections of 50 first-borns and 98 later-borns. The first-borns mentioned significantly more nonfamily members, illness/injury, hospital/doctor's office. Later-borns mentioned significantly more siblings than did first-borns. Findings were discussed in the context of Adler's personality theory. (JAC)

Compared recalled and actual test anxiety in college students (N=71) and examined the interrelationship of anxiety with personality variables and sex differences. Results showed recalled test anxiety to be significantly higher than actual test anxiety and indicated no significant differences according to sex. (LLL)

Cluster analysis of IQ and achievement test scores using the Jastak Assessment System, an approach purporting to derive behavioral descriptors of personality domains, was performed for 24 learning disabled and mildly retarded 7-to 17-year-olds.
