Factor analyses of semantic differentials completed by 445 college students produced two factors for self concept and three factors for ideal self concept, with no simple correspondence in scale loadings. Investigated adolescent males' recognition of evaluative words spoken near threshold by male and female voices. Closed-style subjects (theoretically characterized by social withdrawal and perceptual blocking) recognized fewer female-spoken (relative to male-spoken) words; this finding is consistent with adaptive-style theory. To pattern recent study on the Men's form of the SVIB, six scales were developed for the Women's form that mapped the vocational model of Holland's interest theory.
