An experiment with technical high school students found that a combination of motivation and skills training increased job skill information listed in first resume writing attempts of novice job applicants. Comparison of the modes of training showed that reflectively counseled mothers improved primarily in parent attitudes, whereas behaviorally trained mothers improved primarily in actual use of appropriate behavioral skills, reporting reductions in problematic child behavior and improvements in overall family functioning. Students (N=29) viewed three stimulus films and rated therapeutic effectiveness of the therapists. Students were subsequently rank-ordered on the basis of skill development and assigned to one of three groups (high, middle, or low.) Results revealed an overall higher evaluation for Rogers as compared to either Perls or Ellis. (Author)
