The degree of reality perception of cartoon and human-fantasy televised episodes was measured in four- and five-year-olds. Five-year-olds had a more mature reality perception than four-year-olds. Only five-year-olds had a more mature reality perception of cartoon than of human fantasy episodes. (Author/RD)

Peer reviewedLewandowski, Lawrence – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Hemispheric specialization tasks were given to different-aged boys. Asymmetries were demonstrated on manual, visual, and auditory tasks; however, the degree of asymmetries did not change across age groups. There appears to be a dissociation between visual and auditory perceptual asymmetries. (Author/RD)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Cerebral Dominance, Elementary Secondary Education, Intelligence Quotient
Peer reviewedMandola, John – Journal of the Association for the Study of Perception, 1983
Tested the validity of the Mandola Colorvision Screening Test, a color confusion test involving geometric designs and a tracing technique, as a screening test for color vision defects in 82 preschool and kindergarten children. Results indicated that MCST separates medium to strong color vision defects from the normal population. (JAC)
Descriptors: Measurement Techniques, Primary Education, Screening Tests, Test Validity
Peer reviewedHortin, John A.; Baily, Gerald D. – Reading Improvement, 1983
Discusses the value of making students visually literate. Stresses the technique of visual rehearsal and offers suggestions for incorporating visual rehearsal activities into the classroom. (FL)

Winn, William – Educational Communication and Technology: A Journal of Theory, Research, and Development, 1982
Examines visual cognitive processes having to do with perception, the assimilation of new information, and learning by analogy, and identifies instructional strategies to control each process. Discussion of relationships between visual learning and instruction includes implications for research and design. An extensive bibliography is provided.…

Pettersson, Rune – Educational Communication and Technology: A Journal of Theory, Research, and Development, 1982
Examines the differences in visual and pictorial conventions between people in less technologically developed countries and those in the industrialized European sphere. The implications of these differences are assessed in light of cultural factors rooted in both geographic location and level of technological development. (MER)
Descriptors: Cultural Differences, Developed Nations, Developing Nations, Geographic Location
Peer reviewedSilverman, Wayne P.; Ulatowski, Paul E. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1981
Two experiments examined the perceptual processing of letters embedded within one- and two-syllable words and visually similar nonwords. Results suggest that (1) the size of compelling perceptual units seems limited, and (2) unit size is not necessarily related to the correspondence between letter order and pronounceability.
