The author cautions that far from being an educational panacea, computers may actually be frustrating or even harmful for children with visual problems, including difficulties with visual-tactual development, visual attention span, and nearsightedness. A project offering comprehensive vision therapy evaluations and visual-perception testing to juvenile delinquents revealed a high percentage of undiagnosed and previously untreated visual perceptual problems. Sixteen students (6-26 years old) with developmental dyslexia or hyperactivity and 16 controls were administered the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT) and the Revised test (PPVT-R).
