Young, Andrea – PRIMUS, 2015
This article discusses a cost-effective approach to flipping the calculus classroom. In particular, the emphasis is on low-cost choices, both monetarily and with regards to faculty time, that make the daunting task of flipping a course manageable for a single instructor. Student feedback and overall impressions are also presented.

Dommeyer, Curt J. – Journal of Education for Business, 2017
A quasiexperiment was conducted among marketing research students to determine the effects of lecture capturing (LC). One group of students (the LC group) was allowed access to video recordings of the class lectures whereas another group of students in a parallel class (the control group) was not given access to the recordings. When both groups…

Petrillo, Joseph – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 2016
High failure rates in calculus have plagued students, teachers, and administrators for decades, while science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programmes continue to suffer from low enrollments and high attrition. In an effort to affect this reality, some educators are "flipping" (or inverting) their classrooms. By flipping, we…

Correa, Maite – Higher Education for the Future, 2015
Since the foundation of the Khan Academy (2006), a great deal of attention has been generated to the term "flipped classrooms" (also known as "reverse" or "backwards" classrooms), which is a (new) pedagogical movement that reverses the traditional paradigm of class lecture and homework. This approach subordinates…

Makarem, Suzanne C. – International Journal of Instruction, 2015
University educators need to meet changing needs of the digital generation by integrating technology through online content delivery. Despite the many advantages of online education, a large number of university professors are reluctant to make the transition from traditional-face-to-face lectures to online delivery, mainly due to the time, cost,…

Berardi, Victor; Blundell, Greg – Information Systems Education Journal, 2014
Lecture capture technologies are increasingly being used by instructors, programs, and institutions to deliver online lectures and courses. This lecture capture movement is important as it increases access to education opportunities that were not possible before, it can improve efficiency, and it can increase student engagement. However, this is…

Bates, Tony – Distance Education, 2014
The six articles in this edition are fascinating, both in terms of their content, but even more so in their diversity. In most of the literature and discussion about MOOCs, there is a tendency to talk about instructionist MOOCs (i.e., xMOOCs) or connectivist MOOCs (i.e., cMOOCs; see Daniel, 2012). Although this is still a useful distinction,…

Goodboy, Alan K.; Bolkan, San; Baker, James P. – Communication Education, 2018
Guided by assumptions from the cognitive-affective theory of learning with media, we conducted a teaching experiment to corroborate past correlational research that suggested instructor misbehaviors, in the form of antagonism toward students, impede students' cognitive learning. Participants were 472 undergraduate students who were randomly…

Yu, P.-T.; Wang, B.-Y.; Su, M.-H. – Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, 2015
The primary goal of this study is to create and test a lecture-capture system that can rearrange visual elements while recording is still taking place, in such a way that student performance can be positively influenced. The system we have devised is capable of integrating and rearranging multimedia sources, including learning content, the…
