This secondary carpentry program is designed for grades 10, 11, and 12. Sophomores learn applicable trade procedures and practices, use of tools and materials, products, and devices common to the trade. Juniors receive work experience and a continuing theory program. Seniors are given advanced theory, cost estimation, materials listing, job requirement calculations, and more work experience. This curriculum guide includes general objectives, a curriculum outline, competencies, a student progress record, and 42 references. Twenty-one major areas are outlined: (1) introduction; (2) use and conditioning of hand tools; (3) portable power tools; (4) stationary machines; (5) fasteners; (6) millwork; (7) stagings; (8) concrete floors; (9) framing floors; (10) framing walls and partitions; (11) roof framing; (12) exterior flashing; (13) exterior roof covering; (14) exterior trim; (15) stairs; (16) insulation; (17) drywall construction; (18) interior trim--floor; (19) interior trim; (20) kitchen cabinets; and (21) customer relations and business practices. A separate apprentice-related carpentry curriculum is included. The carpentry trade and related training components each require a period of training of 8,000 hours.
