The relationship between the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales-Classroom Edition and its predecessor, the Vineland Social Maturity Scale was examined with 54 educable and trainable mentally retarded children. The concurrent validity of the two scales was moderate. The mean scores from the newer instrument were significantly lower. (Author/CL)

Misreadings of pencil answer marks on test answer sheets by optical scanners cause scoring errors. Twenty-six different pencils were tested for readability differences when optically scanned. Complete light and dark marks scanned perfectly for 18 pencils. Totals for all six mark types ranged from 947 to 1726 out of 1800. (BS)

Samples in research on individual and group differences may be selected based on whole scores which differ from the population mean. Children are diagnosed in clinical practice with a whole score.
