Peer reviewedHarms, Thelma; Clifford, Richard M. – Studies in Educational Evaluation, 1982
Studies of preschool indicate that: (1) valid and reliable measures of the environment are possible; (2) environments vary across programs; and (3) there is a relationship between the environment and development of children in those environments. The Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale shows promise for both research and training. (Author/LC)
Descriptors: Classroom Environment, Classroom Research, Day Care, Preschool Education
Peer reviewedEnright, Robert D.; And Others – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1983
Examines Rasmussen's Ego Identity Scale for internal consistency reliability and construct validity. Subjects included 114 primarily White and middle-class seventh- and twelfth-grade students. Implications for identity assessment are drawn. (Author/RH)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Age Differences, Moral Development, Self Concept
Peer reviewedFrary, Robert B. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1982
Six different approaches to scoring test data, including number right, correction for guessing, and answer-until-correct, were investigated using Monte Carlo techniques. Modes permitting multiple response showed higher internal consistency, but there was little difference among modes for a validity measure. (JKS)
Descriptors: Guessing (Tests), Measurement Techniques, Multiple Choice Tests, Scoring Formulas
Peer reviewedElbert, Norbert F.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1983
Behavioral Expectation Scales (BES) were compared to summated and trait-oriented scales as measures of teaching performance. The psychometric evidence suggests that the summated format is slightly superior. In terms of practicality (ease of use, defensibility, and accuracy), the summated scale is definitely superior. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Higher Education, Measurement Techniques, Student Evaluation of Teacher Performance
Peer reviewedJensen, Mary A. – Journal of Psychology, 1983
A total of 92 Head Start children responded to the Piers Preschool Pictorial Self-Concept Scale. The relationship between scale scores and age, family structure, or gender was negligible. Responses to several scale items differed significantly when subjects were compared by gender or family structure. (Author/RH)
Descriptors: Age, Family Structure, Measures (Individuals), Preschool Children
Peer reviewedCorrigan, John D.; Schmidt, Lyle D. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1983
Revised the Counselor Rating Form (CRF) creating the Counselor Rating Form-Short version (CRF-S). Tested reliability and validity of the CRF-S. Results indicated reliabilities of CRF-S scales were comparable to those for the CRF. Factor analytic comparison showed three correlated factors corresponding to the attractiveness, expertness, and…

Peer reviewedMiller, Richard E.; And Others – Journal of Drug Education, 1983
Describes instruments developed to measure inmates' (N=150) drug use, knowledge, and attitudes. A drug use inventory, a drug attitude scale, and a drug knowledge test were examined for validity. Each measurement tool was subjected to item analysis for internal consistency. Implications and suggestions are discussed concerning inmate drug…
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, Behavior Patterns, Drug Education, Drug Use
Peer reviewedMorrison, James A.; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
A Spanish auditory perception test, La Prueba de Analisis Auditivo, was developed and administered to 158 Spanish-speaking Latino children, kindergarten through grade 3. Psychometric data for the test are presented, including its relationship to SOBER, a criterion-referenced Spanish reading measure. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Auditory Perception, Perception Tests, Reading Tests, Spanish
Peer reviewedBunting, Carolyn E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
Evidence regarding the factorial validity of the Educational Attitudes Inventory (EAI) is presented, as well as information concerning the intercorrelations of resulting factor scales and split-half reliability of each. Other statistical evidence for the construct validity of the EAI is included. (Author/GK)
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, Elementary Education, Elementary School Teachers, Preschool Teachers
Peer reviewedRosenberg, Howard; Tesolowski, Dennis G. – Career Development for Exceptional Individuals, 1982
The Florida International Diagnostic-Prescriptive Vocational Competency Profile was administered to 50 secondary level and 50 postsecondary level disabled trainees to establish interrater reliability and concurrent validity. Data analyses demonstrated the Profile has the technical characteristics of interrater reliability and concurrent validity.…
Descriptors: Disabilities, Job Skills, Occupational Tests, Postsecondary Education
Peer reviewedZilberg, Nathan J.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1982
Presents necessary cross-validational evidence on the Impact of Event Scale, a measure introduced to provide researchers with a psychometrically sound self-report instrument assessing the essential characteristics associated with stress disorders. The data were consistent with a clinically derived theoretical model of the pattern of response to…
Descriptors: Adults, Personality Measures, Psychometrics, Rating Scales
Peer reviewedEllis, Paul – Journal of European Industrial Training, 1979
Discusses the role and use of achievement tests with particular reference to industry. It describes concepts of validity and reliability, looks at problems, and generally gives helpful hints on use. Contains figures illustrating the process of developing instruction and an example of a simple performance test. (CT)

Development and Analysis of a Measure of Children's Goal-Setting: The Level of Aspiration Indicator.
Bagnato, Stephen J.; French, Joseph L. – Diagnostique, 1981
Results established the indicator's technical adequacy and further defined the self-concept/level of aspirations relationship as supporting evidence of construct validity. (Author)
Descriptors: Aspiration, Elementary Education, Emotional Adjustment, Goal Orientation
Peer reviewedBeuchert, A. Kent; Mendoza, Jorge L. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1979
Ten item discrimination indices, across a variety of item analysis situations, were compared, based on the validities of tests constructed by using each of the indices to select 40 items from a 100-item pool. Item score data were generated by a computer program and included a simulation of guessing. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Item Analysis, Simulation, Statistical Analysis, Test Construction
