A high school population (N = 541) was administered the Rotter Locus of Control in April and again the following November. At the second testing the MacDonald-Tseng and Rotter Internal-External Locus of Control Scales were given to examine their concurrent validity. The AIM-ETS Survey and a demographic survey were also administered. Test-retest…

Steinfatt, Thomas M. – 1974
The known interval scale, referred to as the 7.8 scale, has been criticized as an invalid measuring instrument in the form of an attitude scale. It is the purpose of this paper to demonstrate that this scale can produce spuriously inflated correlation coefficients, high reliability, and false significance on statistical tests. The case will be…

Sanders, James R. – 1976
Applied Performance Tests (APT) are defined as instruments designed to measure performance in an actual or simulated setting. They require at least a close approximation of the setting (if not the actual setting) to which the performance is expected to be transferred. This paper outlines measurement problems and issues that are unique to APT. It…

Unks, Nancy J.; Cox, Richard C. – 1968
The evaluation of a testing program is necessary before or during a sound total project evaluation. Ideally, the testing program study should be concurrent with, and equal in magnitude to, the total project evaluation. Step one in an evaluation is to define the testing program's objectives in operational terms. Step two is a thorough description…

Stocking, Martha; And Others – 1973
For two tests measuring the same trait, the program, BIV20, equates the scores using the two True score distributions estimated by the univariate method 20 program (see Wingersky, Lees, Lennon, and Lord, 1969) and, with these equated true scores and their distributions, estimates the bivariate distribution scores and the relative efficiency of the…

Woodson, M. I. Charles E.
The item (difficulty and discrimination) and test (reliability and validity) statistics in classical test theory are highly dependent upon the calibration sample of individuals used. The estimates of item and test parameters in classical test theory is valid within a range of interest along the characteristic measured. Generally, this range of…

Toole, Patrick F.; And Others – 1970
Section 3 of Phase II of the Pennsylvania Plan is concerned with the adequacy of the educational quality assessment instruments. An overall discussion of reliability--content, criterion related, and construct--is presented. Reliability coefficients for the assessment inventories are provided and empirical studies of validity are described. (PR)

Reilly, Richard R.; Jackson, Rex – 1972
Item options of shortened forms of the Graduate Record Examination Verbal and Quantitative tests were empirically weighted by two variants of a method originally attributed to Guttman. The first method assigned to each option of an item the mean standard score on the remaining items of all subjects choosing that option. The second procedure…

Randall, Robert S. – 1972
Differences in design between norm referenced measures (NRM) and criterion referenced measures (CRM) are reviewed, and some of the procedures proposed on designing and evaluating CRM are examined. Differences in design of NRM and CRM are said to arise from the different purposes that underlie each measure. In addition, there are differences among…

Ashlock, Patrick; Thompson, Glen – 1976
Information is presented on the validity, reliability, and normative data of the Ashlock Tests of Visual Perception-Revised, a screening test for perceptual difficulties in preschoolers. Discussed are implications for using the test for screening, diagnosis, and educational planning. (CL)

Peer reviewedConger, Anthony J.; Conger, Judith Cohen – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1975
Measures of multivariate reliability were calculated for profiles of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) subscales on three age groups. Profile dimensions based on reliability considerations were established and matched across age groups and with factor analytic dimensions. WISC was found to measure general ability and verbal and…

Peer reviewedPerney, Jan – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1975
The concurrent validity of the Student Opinion Inventory (SOI) factor scales was determined and the reproducibility of the reliability estimates found in pilot studies of the instrument examined. Responses to the SOI from students indicated that 5 of the 6 factor scales of the SOI possessed some concurrent validity. (Author/BJG)

The reliability and validity of the Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale was investigated on two samples of undergraduates. The results support the reliability and validity of the instrument. (JKS)

Peer reviewedHanna, Gerald S.; Neely, Margery A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
An aspect of construct validity of the six scales of the Career Maturity Inventory was investigated with 127 ninth-grade students. The scales were found to be more highly intercorrelated than is desirable. Coupled with their modest reliabilities, this outcome was interpreted as a major limitation of the instrument. (Author)

It was found that the General Cognitive Index scores of the McCarthy Scales correlated well with the Stanford-Binet IQ scores. However, 40 of the 44 subjects scored higher on the Stanford-Binet than on the McCarthy Scales. (Author)
