Hoffman, Richard G.; Davis, Gary L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1995
Job applicants (n=114) for a nonmanagerial position were administered the California Personality Inventory (CPI) before hiring. Two-year postemployment ratings of employee characteristics were used as criteria to validate the Work Orientation and Managerial Potential CPI scales. Scales were correlated to the ratings, but not to employment status.…

White, Marion M.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1995
The validity of the Organizational Commitment Questionnaire as a measure of organizational commitment in the Japanese culture was studied with 1,481 Japanese employees. The three-factor model was a better fit to the data than the one- or two-factor models. Results support the cross-cultural utility of the measure. (SLD)

Burrell, Brenda; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1992
The reliability and validity of Child Abuse Potential Inventory (CAP) scores were investigated for 53 mothers of young children with disabilities and 60 mothers of young children without handicaps. Watkins, David; Akande, Adebowale – Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education, 1992
A study investigated the reliability and validity of the Study Process Questionnaire (Biggs) for 352 undergraduates in a Nigerian university. Although it was found that the concepts involved were relevant to this population and scales and subscales had adequate internal consistency, cross-cultural comparison of scores was problematic. Ryan, Joseph J.; And Others – Psychological Assessment, 1992
Validity of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) intersubtest scatter as an indicator of cognitive impairment due to brain dysfunction was studied with 316 brain-damaged men. When compared with the WAIS-R standardization sample, intersubtest scatter was not greater for normal persons of similar intelligence quotient. (SLD)

Hershberger, Paul J.; And Others – Academic Medicine, 1994
Poor performance of medical students, residents, and faculty on a newly developed Inventory of Cognitive Biases in Medicine, suggests that cognitive biases detract from reliance on logical and statistical strategies in medical decision making. The test shows promise for use in instructional and research efforts to reduce such bias. (Author/MSE)

Weems, Richard A.; And Others – Journal of Dental Education, 1992
A procedure for testing the ability of dental students to detect presence and depth of dental caries was evaluated. Students (n=40) from four experience groups examined radiographs obtained from a model. Results indicated that this method of assessing student competence in radiographic interpretation is valid. (MSE)

Ord, Geoff – Psychological Test Bulletin, 1988
The manual for the Fourth Edition of the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale is reviewed. The test has been updated in content and design, following a rationale that is likely to make it a major individual intelligence test. The test appears readily adaptable to use in Australia. (SLD)

Colliver, Jerry A.; And Others – Academic Medicine, 1991
A study assessed the feasibility of sequential testing of medical students using standardized patients. Sequential testing passes students who score well on the first segment of the test thus eliminating additional student-standardized patient encounters. Subjects were six classes of Southern Illinois University students (n=404). Results strongly…

Raphael, Dennis; Brown, Ivan; Renwick, Rebecca – International Journal of Disability, Development and Education, 1999
A study examined the reliability and validity of the Quality of Life Instrument Package using data from 500 persons with developmental disabilities in Ontario. Data indicate that most of the instruments found in the package met acceptable psychometric standards. Appropriate uses for the full and short version are discussed. (Author/CR)

Haney, Walt; Fowler, Clarke; Wheelock, Anne; Bebell, Damian; Malec, Nicole – Education Policy Analysis Archives, 1999
Using data from state and academic reports, an independent committee of researchers has evaluated the Massachusetts Teacher Tests. Scores are found to be highly unreliable, and the tests are found to contain questionable content. Suspending use of the tests is recommended. (SLD)

Wainer, Howard – Education Policy Analysis Archives, 1999
The critique of the Massachusetts Teacher Tests by W. Haney and others points out some flaws in the tests but ignores the fact that the tests provide some useful information to guide teacher selection decisions. Calls for additional study of these teacher evaluation instruments. (SLD)

Kuhl, Josephine; Jarkon-Horlick, Liat; Morissey, Richard F. – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1997
A questionnaire developed to measure barriers to help-seeking behavior in adolescents was tested with 280 high school students following a pilot study. The instrument, Barriers to Adolescents Seeking Help, was found to have good test-retest reliability and adequate validity. Its use in identifying adolescents amenable to or resistant to therapy is…

Lloyd, D.; And Others – Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education, 1996
In an engineering technology course at Coventry University (England), the utility of computer-assisted tests was compared with that of traditional paper-based tests. It was found that the computer-based technique was acceptable to students, produced valid results, and demonstrated potential for saving staff time. (Author/MSE)

Domenech, Daniel A. – School Administrator, 2000
The question of validity, or how high-stakes tests are being used and interpreted, threatens to undermine the entire standards movement. Joint standards developed by three professional associations say decisions affecting students' life chances should not be based on test scores alone. Objectivity and teaching to tests are real concerns. (MLH)
