This article summarizes data regarding the use of transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) in a universal newborn screening program and describes various facets of program implementation. Fifty subjects were classified as having a primary (endogenous) or secondary (exogenous) reading disability; then their Bender protocols were scored.
