Horn, Aaron S.; Lee, Giljae – Research in Higher Education, 2016
A relatively simple way of measuring institutional effectiveness in relation to degree completion is to estimate the difference between an actual and predicted graduation rate, but the reliability and validity of this method have not been thoroughly examined. Longitudinal data were obtained from IPEDS for both public and private not-for-profit…

National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER), 2016
This work asks one simple question: "how reliable is the method used by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) to estimate projected rates of VET program completion?" In other words, how well do early projections align with actual completion rates some years later? Completion rates are simple to calculate with a…

Darakjian, Gregory P.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1985
In a longitudinal investigation, the subscales of the Dimensions of Self-Concept revealed declining predictive validity coefficients relative to criteria of secondary school grades. However, the Level of Aspiration subscale consistently exhibited significant predictive validities of student success during each of four time segments. (Author/DWH)

Neale, Marie D.; And Others – Exceptional Child, 1979
A multivariate analysis of variance, using three factors obtained from a preschool developmental index (Neale Scales) as the dependent variables, and group membership based on subsequent longitudinal reading performance as the independent variables, resulted in a significant multivariate F for a sample of 204 kindergarten children. (Author/SBH)

Bejar, Isaac I.; Blew, Edwin O. – 1981
This study was conducted to establish the existence of grade inflation and show that the ability of college students has remained constant. The second purpose was to examine the effect of grade inflation on the validity of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Two types of analyses were performed to gather data. A longitudinal analysis of selected…

Strobel, Michael G.; Dudek, Stephanie Z. – 1974
Fifty-eight middle class children were tested over 6 years with 25 achievement, I.Q., and personality tests. Consistency of test results were evaluated by a variance comparison method and a simple signal detection model. Both methods lead to the conclusion that achievement tests are far better predictors than personality tests with I.Q. scales…

Turner, Ralph R.; Boulter, Linda K. – 1981
The validity of the interpersonal cognitive problem solving (ICPS) skills model of children's adjustment was investigated (1) by determining whether ICPS skills demonstrated during preschool predicted teacher ratings of adjustment in school during the next two years and (2) by assessing the objectivity of teacher ratings of adjustment through the…

Snyder, Vivian; Elmore, Patricia B. – 1983
The sample for this study included 496 students admitted to a large midwestern university through the special admissions program. Validity coefficients of the Descriptive Tests of Language Skills (DTLS) subtests, the Academic Tests of the ACT Assessment Program (ACT), and high school percentile rank were calculated with cumulative grade point…

Foundation for Knowledge in Development, Littleton, CO. – 1986
The study reported here sought to establish the predictive validity of the Miller Assessment for Preschoolers (MAP), an instrument designed to identify preschool children at risk for school-related problems in the primary years. Children (N=338) in 11 states who were originally tested in 1980 as part of the MAP standardization project were given a…
