Deygers, Bart; Vanbuel, Marieke – Language Testing, 2022
The Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT) is a widely used test of receptive vocabulary, but no researchers to date have examined the performance of low-educated, low-literate L2 adults, or compared these individuals' performances to their more highly educated peers. In this study, we used many-facet Rasch analysis and mixed-effects linear…

Calet, Nuria; López-Reyes, Rocío; Jiménez-Fernández, Gracia – Journal of Research in Reading, 2020
Background: Detecting reading comprehension difficulties is challenging because many factors are involved in comprehension ability. Various reading comprehension tests can be used to detect difficulties but often do not yield the same results. Method: Our aim was to analyse the agreement between three commonly used standardised reading…

Kranzler, John H.; Floyd, Randy G.; Benson, Nicholas; Zaboski, Brian; Thibodaux, Lia – International Journal of School & Educational Psychology, 2016
In this rejoinder, the authors describe the aim of the original study as an effort to conduct a critical test of an important postulate underlying the Cross-Battery Assessment PSW approach (XBA PSW; Kranzler, Floyd, Benson, Zaboski, & Thibodaux, this issue). The authors used classification agreement analysis to examine the concordance between…

Peer reviewedHollinger, Constance L.; Kosek, Sharyn – Gifted Child Quarterly, 1986
The study examined the WISC-R (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised) profiles of 26 intellectually gifted students with respect to idiographic and normative variability in performance between scales and among subtests. Results indicated (even among highly homogeneous ability groups) significant variability in performance, reflecting…

Peer reviewedArcher, Robert P.; Slesinger, David – Assessment, 1999
Studied the relationship between the occurrence of specific Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-Adolescent (MMPI-A) basic scale profile patterns and the frequency of endorsement of three items related to suicide ideation. Responses from 348 adolescents with psychiatric disorders show higher basic clinical scale profiles for those endorsing…

Peer reviewedHargrave, George E.; And Others – Psychological Assessment, 1994
Police officers (n=166) completed the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory versions 1 and 2 (MMPI-1 and MMPI-2) in one sitting. Results showed an overall concordance of 78% for the tests, with a 90% concordance rate for a set of well-defined profiles. Implications for test use are discussed. (SLD)

Peer reviewedJanus, Mark-David; de Groot, Christopher; Toepfer, Steven M. – Assessment, 1998
Studied the use of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory for Adolescents (MMPI-A) (J. Butcher and others, 1992) with 13-year olds by examining the profiles produced. Investigated the effect of scoring with standard MMPI-A norms. Findings support the use of standard MMPI-A norms with 13-year-old inpatients. (SLD)

Peer reviewedDavison, Mark L.; And Others – Psychological Assessment, 1996
Results of profile analysis via multidimensional scaling (PAMS), a technique for studying the most prominent profiles in a battery of measures, are reported for the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale--Revised (WAIS) and the General Aptitude Test Battery (GATB). PAMS profiles and the methodological features of the PAMS approach are discussed. (SLD)

Peer reviewedRyan, Joseph J.; Bohac, Daryl L. – Psychological Assessment, 1994
The clinical utility of the cluster solution of core profiles of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised by McDermott and others (1989) was studied with 161 brain-damaged patients. Core profile methodology was not sensitive to brain damage and lacked neurodiagnostic utility. (SLD)

Peer reviewedArbisi, Paul A.; Ben-Porath, Yossef S. – Psychological Assessment, 1997
A new infrequent response indicator, frequency psychopathology [F(p)] was developed for the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and tested with 308 male psychiatric inpatients (veterans). Findings support the F(p) as a sensitive index of profile invalidity in psychiatric populations. (SLD)

Peer reviewedDiLalla, David L. – Assessment, 1996
A computer-administered (CA) form of the Multidimensional Personality Questionnaire (MPQ) (A. Tellegen, 1982) was created, and scores of 126 college students were compared to those of 101 who took a paper-and-pencil MPQ. Peer reviewedTognolini, Jim; Andrich, David – Applied Measurement in Education, 1996
