Educational Product Report Number 32, 1971
Discusses a new procedure developed by the Center for the Study of Evaluation for evaluating standardized elementary school tests. (JF)
Descriptors: Elementary Schools, Evaluation Criteria, Evaluation Methods, Standardized Tests
Frantz, Thomas T.; Gilbert, Donald – Educ, 1969
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Blacks, High School Students, Intelligence Tests
Peer reviewedFry, Edward – Reading Teacher, 1971
Warns that scores on standardized reading tests which fall at or below the chance level should be disregarded and suggests that teachers administer a lower level of the same test. Table. (RW)
Descriptors: Reading Level, Reading Tests, Standardized Tests, Test Interpretation
Peer reviewedDoll, Richard E. – Journal of Psychology, 1971
The present study investigates item susceptibility to attempted faking as related to two item characteristics: (a) objective versus subjective, and (b) continuous versus noncontinuous." (Author)
Descriptors: Individual Characteristics, Psychological Needs, Research Problems, Responses
Shaffer, Martin; and others – J Soc Psychol, 1969
Descriptors: Adolescents, Cognitive Ability, Cross Cultural Studies, Cultural Differences
Frary, Robert B. – Educ Psychol Meas, 1969
Descriptors: Guessing (Tests), Measurement Techniques, Multiple Choice Tests, Scoring
Peer reviewedGibbs, John C.; And Others – Child Development, 1982
A group-administerable version of Kohlberg's Moral Judgment Interview (MJI) was psychometrically evaluated. Results showed that the Sociomoral Reflection Measure has acceptable concurrent validity with the MJI as well as high levels of construct validity and reliability. (Author/MP)
Descriptors: Adults, Children, College Students, Measures (Individuals)
Peer reviewedKoenig, Alan J.; Rex, Evelyn J. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1983
An experimental instrument to assess reading performance on the Optacon (a machine converting words to tactile stimuli) was pilot tested with 12 visually handicapped Optacon readers (11 to 18 years old). Subtests measuring letter and word recognition and reading rate were satisfactorily reliable, but the subtest measuring literal comprehension was…
Descriptors: Reading Tests, Secondary Education, Test Construction, Test Reliability
Peer reviewedSmith, Kathryn J.; Anderson, Jean L. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1982
The Individual Supervisory Conference Rating Scale (ISCRS) was developed and validated to provide a conference rating instrument for researchers, supervisors, and supervisees in speech-language pathology. Procedures to determine both reliability and validity of the scale were implemented throughout the development process. (Author)
Descriptors: Rating Scales, Speech Pathology, Supervisor Qualifications, Supervisory Training
Peer reviewedWolfgang, Charles H.; Phelps, Pamela – Early Child Development and Care, 1983
A study was conducted (1) to develop an easily and efficiently administered diagnostic instrument for measuring young children's preferences for play materials and (2) to establish the reliability of the instrument. A Piagetian theoretical framework was employed in the construction of the Play-Materials Preference Inventory for preschool children.…
Descriptors: Interest Inventories, Play, Preschool Children, Preschool Education
Peer reviewedShohamy, Elana – Foreign Language Annals, 1983
Results of a study which examined inter- and intrarater reliability of the Oral Interview test suggest that communicative tests such as the Oral Interview can be used reliably, in spite of their subjective nature. (EKN)
Descriptors: Hebrew, Language Proficiency, Language Tests, Second Language Learning
Anderson, Richard Ivan – Journal of Computer-Based Instruction, 1982
Describes confidence testing methods (confidence weighting, probabilistic marking, multiple alternative selection) as alternative to computer-based, multiple choice tests and explains potential benefits (increased reliability, improved examinee evaluation of alternatives, extended diagnostic information and remediation prescriptions, happier…
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Testing, Confidence Testing, Multiple Choice Tests, Probability
Peer reviewedFeil, Philip H. – Journal of Dental Education, 1982
Development of a student evaluation system for two preclinical dental laboratory courses is described. The system uses an analytic technique for identifying components of the evaluation system that contribute to and detract from the evaluation's reliability. Further refinements based on this technique are discussed. (Author/MSE)
Descriptors: Evaluation Methods, Higher Education, Laboratory Procedures, Student Evaluation
Peer reviewedWilliams, Richard H.; Zimmerman, Donald W. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1982
A mathematical link between test reliability and test validity is derived, taking into account the correlation between error scores on a test and error scores on a criterion measure. When this correlation is positive, the "paradoxical" nonmonotonic relation between test reliability and test validity occurs universally. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Correlation, Error of Measurement, Mathematical Models, Test Reliability
Dixon, Rebecca R. – New Directions for Testing and Measurement, 1981
The emphasis placed on test scores in college admissions is discussed. The need for colleges to periodically analyze and define their admissions policy is recommended. (Author/AL)
Descriptors: Admission Criteria, College Entrance Examinations, Predictive Validity, Scores
