Peer reviewedKrus, David J.; Ceurvorst, Robert W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
An algorithm for updating the means of variances of a norm group after each computer-assisted administration of a test is described. The algorithm does not require storage of the whole data set, and provides for unlimited, continuous expansion of the test norms. (Author)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Testing, Computer Programs, Norms, Statistical Data
Peer reviewedPopham, W. James – Educational Leadership, 1978
A well-constructed criterion-referenced test has an unambiguous descriptive scheme, an adequate number of items, a sufficiently limited focus, reliability, validity, and comparative data. (Author/MLF)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Competency Based Education, Criterion Referenced Tests, Elementary Secondary Education
Peer reviewedNewcomer, Phyllis; Hammill, Donald D. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1978

Investigated construct validity of four self-report, self-concept instruments: Bledsoe Self-Concept Scale (BSCS), Children's Self-Concept Scale (CSCS), Self-Esteem Inventory (SEI) and Purdue Self-Concept Scale (PSCS). In assessing the self-concepts of 175 fourth-grade children convergent validity of the tests was not established. (Author)

This study used 126 young adult black and white male inmates to test the comparability of the Pauker and Statz and Mogul short forms with the standard Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). The Pauker form was superior with this population. Findings should not be generalized to other ages, races, or to women. (Author/CP)
Descriptors: Intelligence, Intelligence Differences, Intelligence Tests, Males

Prediger, Dale J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1976
The appropriateness of raw score reports of human traits is questioned, especially in light of the support provided for Holland's theory by normed scores and the stereotypic career options suggested to males and females by raw scores. (Author)
