This study demonstrates the reliability of holistic reading for student essays. It was found that the Test of Standard Written English correlates to a greater degree with the holistic reading scores than it does with teacher-assigned grades. (Author)

Test-retest correlations can lead to biased reliability estimates when there is instability of true scores and/or when measurement errors are correlated.
