Created an adaptation of the Digit Symbol subtest of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, the Digit Symbol Rotation test, and evaluated its "g" loading with 54 adults. Data from 255 normal individuals were factor analyzed. Variables included subtests from the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R), the Kaufman Adolescent and Adult Intelligence Test (KAIT), and two new brief measures. A regression equation relating verbal and full-scale IQs was derived from scores of patients. Scores were highly correlated, and verbal IQ significantly exceeded full-scale IQ. Regression estimates closely estimated mean full-scale IQ, suggesting that the verbal scale serves effectively as a WAIS abbreviation. (Author)
