Ghanizadeh, Afsaneh; Makiabadi, Hossein; Abdi Navokhi, Samaneh – Issues in Educational Research, 2019
Given the prominence of mindfulness in educational settings and the fact that little attention has been given to this concept in foreign language learning, the present study sets out to explore the influence of mindfulness and L2 resilience on Iranian EFL (English as a foreign language) learners' self-fulfilment, and L2 motivation. To meet this…

Peters, Elke; Noreillie, Ann-Sophie; Heylen, Kris; Bulté, Bram; Desmet, Piet – Language Learning, 2019
This cross-sectional study investigated the impact of length of instruction, out-of-school exposure to foreign language input, and gender on learners' receptive vocabulary knowledge in two foreign languages: French (first foreign language) and English (second foreign language). The findings suggest that, although length of instruction correlated…

Starrett, Michael J.; Stokes, Jared D.; Huffman, Derek J.; Ferrer, Emilio; Ekstrom, Arne D. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 2019
An important question regards how we use environmental boundaries to anchor spatial representations during navigation. Behavioral and neurophysiological models appear to provide conflicting predictions, and this question has been difficult to answer because of technical challenges with testing navigation in novel, large-scale, realistic spatial…

Cai, Jin; Yang, Harrison Hao; Gong, Di; MacLeod, Jason; Zhu, Sha – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 2019
The flipped classroom has gained much attention for its pedagogical success in higher education. However, continued use of this technology-supported instructional approach has been problematic. To support the success and continuation of flipped classroom implementation, this study employs structural equation modeling techniques to examine the…

Verhagen, Josje; Boom, Jan; Mulder, Hanna; de Bree, Elise; Leseman, Paul – Developmental Psychology, 2019
The aim of this longitudinal study is to evaluate 3 views on the relationship between nonword repetition and vocabulary: (i) the storage-based view that considers nonword repetition, a measure of phonological storage, as the driving force behind vocabulary development, (ii) the lexical restructuring view that considers improvements in nonword…

Stice, Lauren VanderBroek; Lavner, Justin A. – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 2019
Adults with autism and subclinical autistic traits report greater internalizing problems than their peers, but the psychological processes underlying these associations are not well understood. The current study used structural equation modeling to examine whether social experiences (social connectedness and loneliness) mediate the link between…

Valente, Matthew J.; Gonzalez, Oscar; Miocevic, Milica; MacKinnon, David P. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2016
Methods to assess the significance of mediated effects in education and the social sciences are well studied and fall into two categories: single sample methods and computer-intensive methods. A popular single sample method to detect the significance of the mediated effect is the test of joint significance, and a popular computer-intensive method…

Seo, Hyojeong; Little, Todd D.; Shogren, Karrie A.; Lang, Kyle M. – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 2016
Structural equation modeling (SEM) is a powerful and flexible analytic tool to model latent constructs and their relations with observed variables and other constructs. SEM applications offer advantages over classical models in dealing with statistical assumptions and in adjusting for measurement error. So far, however, SEM has not been fully used…

Hakimzadeh, Rezvan; Besharat, Mohammad-Ali; Khaleghinezhad, Seyed Ali; Ghorban Jahromi, Reza – School Psychology International, 2016
This study investigates the relationships among peers' perceived support, life satisfaction, and student engagement in academic activities. Three hundred and fifteen Iranian students (172 boys and 143 girls) who were studying in one suburb of Tehran participated in this study. All participants were asked to complete Peers' Perceived Support scale…

Liu, Shengnan; Feng, Daming – Policy Futures in Education, 2016
With the tide of globalization, the external environment that schools face turns uncertain and complex. In response to the new challenges, teacher teams need to manage boundaries to maintain the sustainable development. The two studies reported in this paper, aimed to examine the boundary activities of teacher teams of middle schools in China. In…

Investigating Supervisory Relationships and Therapeutic Alliances Using Structural Equation Modeling
DePue, Mary Kristina; Lambie, Glenn W.; Liu, Ren; Gonzalez, Jessica – Counselor Education and Supervision, 2016
The authors used structural equation modeling to examine the contribution of supervisees' supervisory relationship levels to therapeutic alliance (TA) scores with their clients in practicum. Results showed that supervisory relationship scores positively contributed to the TA. Client and counselor ratings of the TA also differed.
