Hendel, Darwin D. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1977
Results of a study to determine whether paired-comparisons i intransitivity is a function of intransitivity associated with specific stimulus objects rather than a function of the entire set of stimulus objects suggested that paired-comparisons intransitivity relates to individual differences variables associated with the respondent. (Author/CTM)

Davison, Mark L.; And Others – Journal of Counseling & Development, 1986
Describes use of multidimensional scaling (MDS) in counseling. Discusses types of data that have been analyzed using MDS, kinds of MDS analyses, and the interpretation of MDS results. Reviews MDS research relevant to vocational, family, group, and individual counseling. Also discusses potential applications in counseling practice. (Author/ABB)

Holbrook, Morris B.; Ryan, Michael J. – Administrative Science Quarterly, 1982
A national questionnaire survey of 324 automotive fleet administrators, examining the effects of three stress variables (decisional ambiguity, conflict, and work overload) in the administrators' 17 decision areas, tested whether managerial stress is decision-specific. Individual-level correlations and aggregate-level multidimensional scaling…

Lautenschlager, Gary J.; Park, Dong-Gun – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1988
The consequences of using item response theory (IRT) item bias detecting procedures with multidimensional IRT item data are examined. Limitations in procedures for detecting item bias are discussed. (SLD)

Jovick, Thomas D. – 1978
This paper describes the methodology used to analyze interview data on school control structures in the Management Implications of Team Teaching (MITT) project. Project MITT looked at school decision issues and their control structures, and at the people making or being governed by those decisions, to test how types of school decisions are related…

Nishisato, Shizuhiko – 1978
A bibliography with approximately 1,000 references to articles on multidimensional scaling (MDS) is preceded by a summary review tracing the major developments in the areas covered, and identifying significant references in each. With the exception of a few earlier documents, the period covered is 1966 to 1978. Topics mentioned in the summary…

Dell, Daryl L. – 1974
The purpose of this study was to develop and field test a needs assessment procedure based on magnitude estimation scaling. The goal was to provide ratio scale expressions of the relative importance of school objectives by pertinent subsets and the total sample of school patrons. A patron-assembled set of 40 goals was evaluated by 132 fathers and…

Young, Forrest W.; Cliff, Norman – Psychometrika, 1972
A metric multidimensional scaling (MDS) procedure based on computer-subject interaction is developed, and an experiment designed to validate the procedure is presented. (Author)

Reynolds, Thomas J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
Cliff's Index "c" derived from an item dominance matrix is utilized in a clustering approach, termed extracting Reliable Guttman Orders (ERGO), to isolate Guttman-type item hierarchies. A comparison of factor analysis to the ERGO is made on social distance data involving multiple ethnic groups. (Author/BW)

Shivy, V.A.; Sullivan, T.N. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2005
The field of engineering is defined by a number of specialty areas, thus most engineering students must decide upon an educational specialty track within the engineering major. Data on familiarity with, and perceptions of similarity among 11 engineering specialties were collected from 129 undergraduate engineering students from a public urban…

Korpi, Meg; Haertel, Edward – 1984
The purpose of this paper is to further the cause of clarifying construct interpretations of tests, by proposing that non-metric multidimensional scaling may be more useful than factor analysis or other latent structure models for investigating the internal structure of tests. It also suggests that typical problems associated with scaling…
