Carsrud, Karen Banks; Ligon, Glynn – 1981
Based on the experiences of four equating studies conducted by the Austin (Texas) Independent School District, a practical "cookbook" approach to test equating is presented. Three types of equating procedures are discussed: choosing a cutoff score on a new instrument, predicting Y from X, and symmetric equating of X and Y. (BW)

Code, Ronald P. – Journal of Medical Education, 1985
A number of statistical procedures that were developed in 1983 at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Rutgers Medical School to verify the suspicion that a student cheated during an examination are described. (MLW)

Western, Drew; Weinberger, Joel – American Psychologist, 2004
This article reconsiders the issue of clinical versus statistical prediction. The term clinical is widely used to denote 1 pole of 2 independent axes: the observer whose data are being aggregated (clinician/expert vs. lay) and the method of aggregating those data (impressionistic vs. statistical). Fifty years of research suggests that when…

Waggener, Robert; And Others – 1974
A large scale study of local norms that are directly related to the interests of military education counselors is described. In a cooperative effort, the U.S. Armed Forces Institute and the Test Department of Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Inc. normed the Adult Basic Learning Examination (ABLE) and validated its utility in predicting success on the…

Peterson, Rolf A.; And Others – Journal of Personality Assessment, 1976
Develops a short form apperception battery for use with beginning primary grade children. An objective scoring system which would predict clinical judgments based on the same material is also developed. (Author/DEP)

Johnson, Kurt L.; And Others – Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, 1987
Applied statistical methods to predict case expenditures for low back pain rehabilitation cases in proprietary rehabilitation. Extracted predictor variables from case records of 175 workers compensation claimants with some degree of permanent disability due to back injury. Performed several multiple regression analyses resulting in a formula that…

Bruno, James E. – Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, 1975
Compares the accuracy of various student test score projection techniques, including idiographic analysis, standard score method, regression analysis, and a differential equation growth model. Concludes with an overview of the problems of projecting student test scores and suggests a stochastic procedure based on Bayesian analysis for educational…

Tallmadge, G. Kasten – 1988
The question of regression to the mean is discussed in the contexts of the Title I Evaluation and Reporting System (TIERS) and the Bilingual Education Evaluation System (BEES), both of which involve assessing the achievement growth of project students from pre- to post-test. The correction formula recommended for use with TIERS was designed to…

Davidson, Betty M. – 1988
Researchers sometimes use stepwise methods to eliminate variables from analyses when the variables do not appreciably improve the ability to explain or predict inferences about the importance of various predictor variables. It is argued that stepwise methods are usually not appropriate for these purposes for three reasons. First, some researchers…

LAFORGE, ROLFE; POLK, KENNETH – 1965
STATISTICAL MODELS WERE USED TO STUDY THE NATURE OF HIGH SCHOOL "FAILURES". THE STUDY (1) COMPARED THE DEGREE TO WHICH FAILURE COULD BE PREDICTED BY MULTIVARIABLE AND CONFIGURAL MODELS AND (2) CONSTRUCTED SCALES BY MEANS OF TRADITIONAL PSYCHOMETRIC ITEM ANALYSIS AND CROSS-VALIDATION AND BY MEANS OF STRUCTURAL ITEM ANALYSIS. THE SAMPLE…
