Al-Hilawani, Yasser A. – Educational Studies, 2018
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between metacognition as measured in real-life situations and IQ scores as reflected by performance on the Raven Standard Progressive Matrices Scale. It is also intended in this study to report on whether or not there were significant differences in performance on the metacognitive…

Belle, Janna; van Hulst, Branko M.; Durston, Sarah – Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 2015
Background: Intra-individual variability reflects temporal variation within an individual's performance on a cognitive task. Children with developmental disorders, such as ADHD and ASD show increased levels of intra-individual variability. In typical development, intra-individual variability decreases sharply between the ages 6 and 20. The tight…

Jensen, A. R. – Intelligence, 2011
Mental chronometry (MC) studies cognitive processes measured by time. It provides an absolute, ratio scale. The limitations of instrumentation and statistical analysis caused the early studies in MC to be eclipsed by the "paper-and-pencil" psychometric tests started by Binet. However, they use an age-normed, rather than a ratio scale, which…

Zhou, Xiaobin; Zhu, Jianjun; Weiss, Lawrence G. – Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, 2010
This study investigated the Wechsler Performance IQ (PIQ) or Perceptual Reasoning Index (PRI)/ Perceptual Organization Index (POI) change over time and its relation to ability levels. PIQ or PRI/ POI was analyzed because of the known sensitivity of nonverbal scales to the Flynn effect. Scores were analyzed using two methods. First, analysis of…

Åsberg Johnels, Jakob; Kopp, Svenny; Gillberg, Christopher – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2014
Writing difficulties are common among children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but the nature of these difficulties has not been well studied. Here we relate behavioral, psycholinguistic, cognitive (memory/executive), and graphomotor measures to spelling skills in school-age girls with ADHD (n = 30) and an age-matched group…

Peer reviewedJensen, Arthur R. – Intelligence, 1998
Research is reviewed to show that the weakness of the reaction time slope parameter (b) of the Hick function x IQ correlation is mainly attributable to statistical artifacts that suppress the parameter's correlation with any other variables, such as the intercept and IQ. Conditions that reduce this suppression are reviewed. (SLD)

Peer reviewedSpring, Carl – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1971
Total reaction time for dyslexic children was found to be longer than for normal children, suggesting that a modification of the study task might be useful for the early prediction of reading disability. (GS)

Karnes, Merle B.; And Others – 1972
Data on two preschool intervention programs for children from low-income families are discussed. The first program, the Karnes Preschool Program for the amelioration of learning deficits, is characterized by a structured format based on psychological theories. Its curriculum is designed to develop the basic language processes and to teach content…
